Too many layers and way too many people who think they're important but don't actually contribute anything. We spend our days in pointless meetings, dealing with endless back-and-forth, and watching people fight over territory instead of actually moving things forward. Nothing gets accomplished because everyone is too busy trying to look like they're in charge. Flatten the management structure and watch as things improve overnight.

OK. All you need to know is that SBC destroyed everything it acquired. BellSouth, Cingular and TW. The SBC leadership is nothing but incense and incompetence.

Saw an Associate Director reporting to an Associate Director. Also, there should not be any individual contributors over Level 1. Get rid of L2, L3, L4 ICs (I say this as an L2 IC) and compensate them based on what value they deliver and if they don't, then move them out of the business.
This is spot on. T continues to promote inept leaders who have no reason being promoted. On top of that, the number of layers in the management structure is beyond ridiculous. Most of T leaders couldnt run a drive-thru outside of T, but some how get promoted upwards at T.9
Spent 40+ years there. I can't give the count of times "we're flattening the company, no more than 6 levels from IC to CEO" was the stated plan. It's more than fingers on one hand and maybe both.
It never got fully done and what did get done didn't last long each time.
Remove countless unwanted L3s and L4s. That in itself is sufficient to make a big positive financial and operational impact.
But I thought we were customer first……period. SMH

One of the truest things posted here. The amount of fighting over territory and trying to be the ones who get their team/org/group names on products and launches is beyond embarrassing.
Imagine if we focused on the quality of the things we produce and emphasized working together with outside teams instead of trying to be the first and boxing everyone else out.
