I put so much effort into my work and I know it's good. Other people notice and comment on it, but I never seem to get anywhere because I'm not part of the favored group. I don't know why I keep trying so hard.

If you aren't in a high CASTE, you won't get a promotion or be noticed.
It’s about who you know verse how well you do your job. Don’t take it personal even though I know it is. They want who they want and that’s just how it’s going to be. I’m in a similar position and hands down the most unethical group of people I have worked with. Let’s promote those that don’t even show up or leave after 2 hours or who do half the workload. I’ll be giving my two week notice soon. Sometimes you just have to know when to walk away.
@OP Had that issue for years. Finally got lucky about 15 years ago, got promoted and all that. But that’s where I still am. Being over age 55 doesn’t help. I have forgotten more than some of the new people who are team leaders , etc know but they want young players for the next wave of leaders. But remember it’s a great place to work!
