Anyone rif'd in the past collect unemployment? Do you file on your last day worked and get it after the 1 week waiting period or do you have to apply after your severance weeks are over? People with personal experience please reply.

@OP You should file on the first Monday after your last day. There is a one week waiting Requirement before they process your application. Normally, If you receive a severance, you would begin to collect after the severance ends. There is an exception, The timing of when severance payments begin can affect eligibility. If severance payments start more than 30 days after your last day of work, they typically do not count against your unemployment benefits. Most companies give you 45 days to accept the severance, if you accept it at the 31st day, there will be no lapse in unemployment. The New York State unemployment website explains it in more detail.

Severance has nothing to do with unemployment.

You can file last day and bring Vz letter stating date you get when RIF
