How big will be the 2023 layoff at A&T

What are your predictions? When will it start?

Craft is safe for the most part. The people that need to worry is the big groups of over 100 craft workers that support provisioning and maintenance. Jobs will start shifting to outside contractors little by little with the help from more advanced automation. Automation has a well know track record of displacing workers and create a seamless integration with contractors.

With the decrease in work, I’m sure Biz Service will be hiring.

Based on Wall Street moving T Stock to a neutral:

  1. A lot
  2. Soon

The Street said AT&T has to do something massive, like spin off their wireline business before they get better bidding. Wireline is 35% of the business, continues to erode, and is replaced by other wireline that doesn't come close to the prices previously paid on the eroded product.

Randall said on his video he wasn't betting the farm on these purchases. But he was. And Stankey was standing right beside him as a yes man.
Blows my mind that the Stankster is running this company.
There is too much bloat in the management structure as well.

ACE West management has to reduce 152 of its headcount by EOY23. It shows on the headcount report that it is spread out over 12 months, but with the actual headcount right now and the VP saying on the call they are reducing management headcount by 8%, the final EOY23 headcount reduction of 152 calculates correctly. They didn’t say on the call whether it was going to be all at once or if it would be spread out throughout the year. I just wish they would get it over with because I can’t stand the waiting to find out part.

202990! Talk about a reduction. How will at&t survive? Stankey loves rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Jobs are at a high risk for even those that support these functions you mentioned. It is quite worrisome right now for us.

I believe we should receive some new org announcement either tomorrow or next Friday. 10% is the realistic number I and others I are hearing -(this would be for non-craft employee). Ops, marketing & even sales will be further trimmed down, for the direct sales teams they seem to have been given a much smaller account module to manage and grow with significantly increased quotas-which border on being unattainable-think a 35%-100% increases in some modules. I've spoken to several who are saying they believe this is a way to manage a portion of the sales staff out of the business for "non-performance" and thus saving on any possible severance and replacing those senior salespeople with younger lower salaried new hires.
interesting times

My questions on the fiber is how much of the existing copper was replaced with fiber and how much is turned up and ready for use. Supposedly they exceeded their build targets in 22. And the plan is to have the network 50% fiber in 25. Every piece of fiber that comes into play means a dramatic increase of capacity and a significant reduction in associated costs compared with copper. Can’t see anyway the Network department doesn’t take significant hits as they move through this process.

Folks having anything to do with copper are on the block as well as their support staff, supply chain etc. I’m not sure how much more clear they can make their intentions. Fiber and 5G only.

Will only happen in management for now. Craft will be a long way down the road and not take a big hit. Fortunately for craft employees, we're safe for quite some time.

T has way too many mouths to feed. Time for some real headcount rationalization. With the current debt load combined with lower revenue, there is no way of sustaining this company without major labor cutbacks.

I truly believe that based on the current economic conditions, 20-25% reductions will ultimately end up being too high and not realistic for ATT. T will surgically and very methodically carve away small areas of the business that are either no longer a value to the company or just produce a small revenue stream if anything. I'm hoping this layoff activity is somewhat anticlimactic and small in scale.

A phone and internet company really don't need that many workers. Let's pair it down and get the right amount of workers so we can be successful as a company.

Stankey is turning the company around. Growing mobility and fiber. Adjusting the business as needed.

Expect layoff numbers of 20% - 25% in 2023. At&t is unique as compared to other companies. Stankey has burdened at&t with $135B in debt, revenue is way down and continues on a downward spiral. At&t has way too many employees, better to cut employees now to conserve cash. One thing for sure, it will get worse before it gets better. Brace yourself!

All reductions will be calculated. They will reduce headcount going forward in each department until they get to where they want to be. In some departments, they will slowly reduce the employees count until there are none left. I’m other departments where they don’t want or need the personnel, they will surplus them all and move the work elsewhere, if needed.
The question everyone needs to ask themselves- can my job be done elsewhere with cheaper labor? Or can a contractor do my job?
These are sad days around here but remember we need to live our life. You get one shot at life, don’t let T ruin it or set you on a negative path. Take control of your life- upskill, go back to school, find a career you love etc.
T will function with or without everyone who reads this post.

Nobody knows for certain what the actual numbers will be. ATT could surprise everyone and reduce headcount by only 3-5% this year. I still believe it’s not going to be nearly as bad as all the pessimists on this site believe it will be! This is based on the economy being in better shape than analysts believed it to be. T just might have a much better 1st Q than originally anticipated. Stay positive and try not to think about it and don’t put too much into what you hear from conference calls!

It’s already started. People were let go effective 1/31 and a lot more are being let go at by the end of this month. The only thing that is certain is the ones making these decisions won’t be laying off any of their own. They’re too good for that.
