Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Valentines lay off rumor.. This is the B IG day

From what I have heard from a handful of SR. Managers and two senior directors, a lot of layoffs and/or notifications are scheduled to come around Feb 14th. I have no idea why but that's what I've heard from more than a handful of very reputable managers.

Apparently the layoffs this week is just the beginning and is meant for washing away the low performers. The February layoffs are meant for low performers, high salaried, and tenured employees.... APPARENTLY

They have to feed the insatiable appetite of the beast of corporate greed. Shareholders demand bigger dividend checks so workers get cut. Those that remain get to double & triple their workloads. Ain’t unfettered capitalism grand?!?

Based on what I’ve seen on LinkedIn, last week’s layoffs were NOT low performers. Dell lost a lot of talented people.

I didn’t see any nepo-layoffs (don’t have anything against them as we all try to work our networks). I do think managers keep them around to keep themselves closely tied to their leadership parents though.

That would be classic, laid off on Valentines Day! Maybe another on December 25th!

Well - how does it actually look in practice ? I am from EMEA region and tried to login this evening , but no access. Should I expect valentine's call tomorrow when HR people start working in the morning ;) ?

A Hallmark made up card sales day is nothing special in the business world outside of florists, chocolates and cards.

Sounds about right.
Pay planning is happening on Monday 13th. The EMEA layoffs should start Tuesday once that has been finalised and submitted. Will have the budgets for IBP and ACR confirmed then too.
The lists were submitted back in early Jan.
Low performers within Support (performance over the first 3 Qtrs) will be targeted.
Spans will likely be the next thing to be challenged in the coming months.
Interesting few months ahead.

As others have been saying, this is not a one time event. Cuts have been happening for months already and will continue to happen. I wouldn’t expect them to be largely complete until April or May. And even then, 2H may necessitate more trimming. Never fall for the “job security” mindset, no matter the economic environment or business results or personal performance:

I thought your information was flawed from the moment you used the frase "reputable managers". That's an oxymoron done Dell has the most deplorable front line managers.

Sounds about right that Mikey would wait til Valentine’s Day to show how much he values his employees by laying them off. What a gift!
Everyone else, get back to work. The beatings will continue until morale improves
