Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

I'm tired of it all

Work shouldn't be this stressful a few years before retirement.

Definitely worn out worrying whether my job is safe. :-(

I have 10 years to go but if I was only a few years out I would just do the least amount possible. I "quietly quit" most of 2021-2022 becuase I was in a boring role but snapped out when I was moved to a more challenging position. I'm very happy now and wish the absolute best to those that were impacted last week.

I'm right there with you. Which is why I decided last year before all this Layoffs stuff started that I would retire in 2023. I would have been happy to get Tagged in this round of layoffs as the Severance Package looks to have been about close to how much I would have earned staying until my designated date.

Alas it was not to be. Maybe there will be another layoff before my date that gets me. My manager knows that I would be "Happy" to be the sacrificial lamb if she needed to release someone to make her number.

My team was not impacted on this round, so maybe they will come back and get us on the next.

I have another 25 to 30 years until retirement and I'm tired of it all as well. I've been supporting myself before I could even vote and got into tech in an entry level position in HS just so I could eat a meal or two a day. One minute the market is up the next its down and I learned early on that as an employee we are looked at in the same lens as a machine that pumps out widgets. A job to do and expendable AF. Loyalty is usually a one way street and its not in your favor. As an aside I've accepted that and have seriously considered alternative means of supporting myself that does not include working myself to death for the man. What that looks like? I have no clue as of yet but I'm done worry about my survival so that some billionaire oligarch can appease a public market.

Quietly Quit
Retire now and let them know later
Prob end up laid off next round
Lay low, stop stressing
Or have a talk with your manager , let them know how they can help lessen the stressful workload
