Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Poor Healthcare

Why is Exxon’s Aetna so healthcare such bad coverage?

No hard data, anecdotal experience is mine and friends, but seems our health care provider options weren’t ever great and are dwindling. Healthcare is a benefit I would think Exxon would highly value as a conservative, career based company.

Hey @3yde+1lFeJTdK

You have been lied to...healthcare in Canada is not what you claim it to be. It is BS to make you think it is better in the US. Also, USA Medical schools have restricted the number of graduates for years while not paying attention to population growth. Guess what you d-mb a-s....try finding a decent GP, dermatologist, nephrologist, endocrinologist, etc in the USA that doesn't have a wait of 3-6 months and some are not even taking new patients. The wait is just as long as it is in Canada if not longer.

Stop spreading misinformation.

Conservatives do not care about healthcare. Their answer is to get a job that has insurance. But this will make your head spin because they also believe a corporation shouldn't have to be burdened with government regulations like uh...requiring health insurance for employees. Nuts...

Aetna is terrible unless you live in Houston. The next time you need to try to find a Dr for something, take 30 minutes and search Midland or Williston. Combine that with bottom median salary compared to any company that is local in either basin, it’s not surprising these areas are “hard to staff”

Many (millennial) Americans think that universal health is the holy grail. The trouble is (1) they don’t have the money to pay the taxes to support it, and (2) they don’t know the grim reality of what’s happened to the UK NHS or the Canadian system.

For years, UK and Canadian citizens have traveled abroad because either the treatment they need is (a) not available, (b) too expensive, or (c) the wait list is too long. Now the UK is facing a wait time of up to 90 minutes for an ambulance to arrive in emergency situations.

As a non- American, I thought you guys are all "universal healthcare = SoCiALiSm". Does that dogmatic ideology only fall away when your crazy healthcare costs starts impacting you?

I have Cigna and my local pharmacist told me but the script out right it’s cheaper than what you will pay through your insurance. This is the complete truth. Exxonmobil has become a pharking joke!

@OP Healthcare is bad everywhere in America for most people. I believe you call it “freedom” or something similar.

I switched to Cigna about 3 years ago after being on the EM plan for 30 years. Everything was fine until this year when EM changed the prescription dr-g policy to the same as the POS plan B. Now my wife’s meds cost $50/month more than they did last year. Just changed pricing policy, and the only notification was in the fine print of a document that you had to dig a dozen clicks to find on the benefits website. Oh, no premium price reduction either.

I always assumed Exxon plans were the best (stupid of me), only to find my wife's provider had better and cheaper plans. Now I save $1200 with better coverage

If you want a laugh try being expat. Exxon makes you buy the international health plan from them even though there isn't a doctor in that network within 8000 miles of where you're located. Money well spent.

If you think the coverage is bad near Houston try using it in the Permian. I max out the FSA each year and it is still not enough. The local providers are all out of network. I’ve never spent so much in healthcare in my life. Can’t wait to get back to civilization where the HMO is an option and there are in network providers.

You think conservatives care about healthcare affordability? LOL. Restricting healthcare and gutting Social security is part of the plan. But keep voting for these clowns.

Aetna just got dropped from one of the major healthcare systems in BR yesterday. Guess I need a new primary now? Fk Aetna. They stopped covering us getting RX filled at our local independent pharmacy. Since they're part of CVS, they force you to go there now. Can't wait til healthcare gets socialized one day, whole system is a fkn racket. Don't even get me started on our dental. That's a farce.

OP. I am not here to say the Aetna options (or any other options for EM healthcare in the US) are great, BUT the options are not “bad”, at least some of them are not.

If you are on the Aetna select plan you are getting a smaller network and in general lower out of pocket costs. The select plan is a lipstick-on-a-pig version of what is basically an HMO.

If you are on the POS II plan you are paying more in premiums and paying 20% of the bill up to the out of pocket max. But basically you can see almost any doctor anywhere…..there are very few doctors / facilities that do not take it.

Overall I would say it’s mediocre to slightly “good” coverage. But you cannot just say “aetna bad”. The choices are there and you somewhat get that for which you pay.
