Last year I applied for an internal position, but the position got canceled due to budget cuts. So I stayed in my role.
Since then I’ve been sidelined by my supervisor. While my colleagues were allowed to hire, I was told there was no budget. Also i was not given other responsibilities besides the project I am on.
I’m thinking of contacting the ombudsman but fearing additional retaliation, because my MD is extremely powerful and protected. Any similar experiences or advice?
Why should we leave when the real issue is poor management? People leadership is a privilege, not an authorization for authoritarianism. Treat us with respect.
If you are so unhappy as appears to be the case with most on this board then leave. Nobody is forcing you to stay.

Unfortunately, HR is not on your side. HR is on the side of the firm, and will do what is best for the firm. You have only a few options here. 1. If the option is available, transfer somewhere else within fast. 2. Do you know any other MDs that are higher level, A2 or A3? Basically reach out to an MD with more juice if possible. 3. Talk it over with your manager.
Reporting to HR does nothing but make things worse. Just move to another position.
Your best bet is to move on to a new role. Reporting to HR will do nothing specially if your MD is an older while male.
