Depends on what level are you in. If you are an IC and your contribution is only measured as part of teams success you better love your work and let it speak. Even if things change your professional acumen can help you navigate crisis. As others suggested if you are responsible for someone’s work you are safe by appeasing your boss even if you are a mediocre talent or a wrong talent

I knew someone who was in emc, when the dell takeover came along he started another job and kept both. For the first 1.5 years after the closing most emc employees did nothing at dell. The dell managers didn’t seem prepared and never noticed. Over a year later he stopped attending dell meetings or doing anything Dell related. Eventually 9 months later, now into year 2 he was laid off and for the short run did quite well for himself.
So getting a second job and working remote for both will cover your a-s in a layoff.

It’s funny how people worry about jobs when they should worry about climate change.

I can only comment on EMEA ISG, incompetent management are making all the decisions here so it is inevitable that the org is circling the drain. Mediocre techs promoted to management in EMEA because of some irrelevant qualification or who they know.

Learn to Farm, learn to be skillful.
The days of safety are gone.
Dell will layoff more folks in the coming months.

Join the ranks of bu-t smooch management. All the managers in my old group still have jobs, most were incompetent at work but kisses the ring and made pretty status charts.

Talk to your leader, ask for some new opportunities and ask for feedback on areas they would like to see you develop.

With the advent of advanced AI models, hold on, because the future looks bleeker. Once AI starts taking over many positions' functions (which are currently done by troves of underachieving seat warmers) corporations will go on WFR frenzy like the world has never seen
