Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

Looking for a new job reduces anxiety

If I were to just wait and see if I was going to lose this job soon or not, I think my anxiety would be through the roof. On the other hand, my friend who is also looking for a job says that his anxiety is much higher since he started looking for a new job because the competition is huge.
Are you actively looking for something new?

If you are unsatisfied with your job for whatever reasons, you should start looking for another. If you actually got laid off, you will receive 60 paid days during you could search for another job in addition to the severance pay.

dude no one can tell you ahead of time you're safe....if someone did they are being irresponsible.

do you really think LT members were going around calling individual contributors out specifically that they're safe? MDT is about to lay off like 6-7k people ...no one's safe. keep looking.

I am an IC. I was told I am safe for now but I am looking. The management here is just too out of touch and Medtronic is not the company I though it was.

Looking for a job right now is tough unless you are in a niche with a rare skill set. It's a much worse job market than it was 6 months ago. That being said, looking keeps me less stressed than the job and the job search is stressful. How sad is that.

Yes, I go back and forth. I will admit to the comment below who said they were safe - I am jealous. I have been submitting my resume for the past few weeks. I've had a few interviews, but the competition is so huge right now and there aren't as many job postings as there were one year ago. The ideal would be getting a job offer the day after getting laid off so I get the severance, but can start working right away.

I go back and forth every day, literally. I was already told I'm safe, but still not a fan of MDT so far after being here under two years. If we start off missing AOP first quarter, I think that will be a firm nail in the coffin.
