JM wanted relationship with them from beginning of tenure at Cenovus and finally made it happen. Share buybacks just increase their stake in Cenovus as the public float decreases with each buyback. Dividend increases should be partnered with buybacks - instead Cenovus has the lowest payout ratio of its peers. Either it doesn't think it can keep making money or its mandated to reduce public shareholdings.

Sad times. How the mighty Cenovus burnt and crashed as Husky weaseled it’s way in and took over

Well, there’s board independence gone, for a start. The inmates truly are running the asylum now. No checks and balances at all. Just like Husky, and the same fate in store.

This direction was very clear right from day one. It has been great to watch the slow realization of the hard core fanboys.
