This morning there was a shooting at Intel OC 6. One person is dead one person is in custody and one person is injured. They were all Intel employees. Maybe now the media will realize that they dropped everybody's pay instead of just the executives.

Welcome to the murdah town
@3riz+1lfSScHE -- Do you or anyone here know when Derrick Simmons was hired by Intel?
NO worries. OC6 cafeteria will reopen soon, with unlimited free fruit & sodas. Just as soon as they mop up the bl*od.
- too Dark?
The premeditation was bringing the bat into the office in the first place. Even if you’re on a company softball team, there’s no business reason to bring that into the office.
@3uva+1lfSScHE YUP!
These guys had been with Intel for over a decade. Who knows what their history is.
Since a person doesn’t generally premeditate letting Louisville D. Slugger do the talking for you inside the work cafeteria, I can’t help but acknowledge there is a potential reality to this situation where ya go “hate to say it, but I completely get it”.
HR DOESNT support intel employees! Especially when there is an issue of racial issues among there employees! When employees address these issues that are going on in the workplace and it gets swept under the rug this is sadly what people revert to! So sad nobody listened and cares enough about there minorities! And security? What security? HR wake up!!!!! When an employee makes a statement in writing about a bullying issue it should be addressed NOT pushed under the rug!!! Look at the outcome!
About the background checks...the ban in Arizona doesn't pertain to private industry. In California, where Intel is headquartered, it applies to public and private.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is “ban the box”? What is a fair-chance policy?
A. “Ban the box” was the rallying cry of All of Us or None organizers that refers to removing the conviction history check-box from a job application. All of Us or None is a grassroots, civil rights organization led by formerly incarcerated and convicted people. In addition to delaying conviction history inquiries until later in the hiring process, fair-chance policies include the following:
• Integrating the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) arrest and conviction record guidelines, which require employers to take into account time passed since the offense, whether the offense is related to the job position, and evidence of rehabilitation; and
• Adopting strong standards of accuracy and transparency to maintain the integrity of background checks when they are required and to protect workers against arbitrary treatment in the hiring process.
Q. What doesn’t a fair-chance policy do?
A. An employer is not required to hire an individual under a fair-chance policy. In other words, the employer retains the discretion to hire the most qualified candidate. Some policies seek to limit background check inquiries to only those positions deemed sensitive or to limit the availability of certain criminal record information to only recent convictions. Other policies have no limitations on background check screening except as to delay any inquiries until later in the hiring process. See NELP’s Best Practices and Model Policies, located in the NELP Fair Chance Toolkit
You should do your homework before you call someone out for not doing theirs.
"Simmons also was convicted in 2001 for aggravated as--ult with a deadly we-pon, according to court paperwork, but details of that case weren’t immediately available."

you can't fix stupid
@2pxb+1lfSScHE - hey dipsh!t, I think we all have a reasonable expectation that our employer, who claims to be a few cycles from roaring back as a blue chip company (right? right?!?!!!), should keep employees safe while on their campus.
The security is a joke. As is your logical reasoning. F-off.
@2wky+1lfSScHE you seem confused. Nobody here is disputing the event is tragic. Read the original post.
The @Op is asserting the mu---r is a result of a pay cuts. There is nothing to support that point.
The last poster was correctly pointing out you can't draw a conclusion from one data point and of course that is right.
Look, HR, someone - a coworker, a friend, a family member maybe, was bludgeoned to death in the cafeteria in front of people. An act of workplace violence. This is not a statistic. This is real. The sooner you get your head around the fact you have a situation the better for everyone.
Human are utterly terrible at processing numbers and statistics. there are 7 mu---r per 100,000 in the US
This sh-t happens all the time.
There are over 100,000 employees at Intel. 30% of your time is spent at work.
You do the calculations... A certain number of mu---rs are too be expected.
In the case of the Hillsboro death, the victim was a contractor and the circumstance had nothing to do with Intel. (Prior relationship issues).
Tired of people thinking with emotions instead of using math.
I remember on 9/11 a similar email or posting went out reminding people to get back to work. It was pulled several hours later. Anyone else remember that? I stayed home that morning as it really shook me up.
Let’s see if they close the cafe for a while. Out of respect,
People do not take their mental wellness serious, especially men. Then they go and do soft a%$ sh$t like this. Two lessons to learn is know you do not know what the next man is capable of and two prison food sucks. RIP to the victim who didn't deserve violence in the workplace.
Infidelity? Who let BK back on campus?
Get ready for metal detectors and bag inspections coming to a campus near you!
How exactly do we know they weren’t just playing a friendly game of cricket in the cafeteria, and the bat slipped?
If we were unionized we could hold out for hazard pay.
@1ebl+1lfSScHE Yes there has been one disasterous tone deaf comm to the people who sit in those buildings so far
Simmons was arrested in 2001 on a charge of aggravated as--ult with a deadly we-pon.
Background check fail? Or gotta boost those BPOC numbers for the sake of diversity and inclusion.
Can someone confirm infidelity??
That changes this.
Hopefully the response to this disaster isn’t IDM2.0, the Building Security edition.
F hybrid work. My a-s is staying remote for the year
Makes ya wonder about the OKRs in that group.
This is really sad. Has there been any comms from site leadership? I am not on the OC distros.
Wondering if OC6 cafeteria will ever reopen after something like this?
I know I won't be working on site at all next week.
Even a Taser would have worked right?
If someone had a g-n they could have shot him.
It will be nauseating to watch Pats video on this.
Hopefully he only sends an email and that’s it.
I can only assume this is not Derrick’s fault. Innocent until proven guilty.
There may have been racism against him and he may have been bullied at work.
Bullying does not solve anything!
Omg so sorry to those affected. This is truly awful news.
False flag. It was economic headwinds, not a sho-ter.
Might as well get a Kevlar while going to office.
It was a bat and by a guy who had a 2001 prior for as--ult- https://www.azfamily.com/2023/02/18/man-accused-killing-coworker-with-baseball-bat-injuring-another-chandler-intel-facility/
I’m not part of HR ,I’m actually someone that knew the victim and it has been a very hard day for me ! The details giving in this blog will not give no one closure ! So hard to understand Respect?
It wasn’t a shooting! https://www.azfamily.com/2023/02/18/man-accused-ki-ling-coworker-with-baseball-bat-injuring-another-chandler-intel-facility/?outputType=amp
Ok HR thanks for that reminder but for those of us who work in that building or eat in that cafe understand we want to know exactly what went on, is this a coworker or friend of ours and yes, what are YOU going to do to address it. Your email from this afternoon was completely devoid of respect for the deceased or the living. You just said this is a rare occurrence so carry on, there is a footpath marked out to the factory.
Can we respect the victim family , there is not details that can bring him back , a reminder please respect other!
