“The longer you stay the more Nike will squeeze your pay into a much lower compensation rate than the market rate”

You ain’t kidding. When I left Nike for another company I asked for a significant increase over what Nike was paying me. I thought I’d have to negotiate for it. Nope. They were happy to hire me at my asking price. At that point it was as if I had an awakening that Nike had been dramatically underpaying me. Live and learn I guess.

Nike salary decisions are less influenced by managers these days and mostly controlled by algorithms. This shift started a few years ago. Managers have an ability to override the system but it takes a lot of influencing and lobbying to get it pushed through. The vast majority of the CFE process is theater and has very little impact to whatever your pay increase will be. Safe to assume that you'll get a 2-3% increase with some exceptions, that's the standard Nike baseline. All bets are off for the executive VP and above class. Their compensation and perks are decoupled from reality and always have been. The longer you stay the more Nike will squeeze your pay into a much lower compensation rate than the market rate...but that standard practice at all companies.

Raises occur in August and are theoretically based on performance. However anyone who’s been around awhile knows that there’s a pot of money for raises and managers try to dole that money out in whatever way they think is “fair”. Your performance may or may not be reflected in that raise. For example I once received a “Highly Successful” but a 1.8% annual raise because my managers felt they needed to boost-up some other people to “manage salary comparisons”. So basically my raise had nothing to do with my actual performance. If you ever get the chance to sit in a “calibration meeting” it’s a depressing experience to see how these decisions get made. Quite political and with a high degree of subjectivity.

hmm, not sure about that, but someone else can confirm this, I believe any "increase" that has to happen happens around August every year.

Sorry, base pay increase. Cost of living increase. Not necessarily the same as a raise for performance.
