Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

PSR

The entire idea behind the workforce in relation to PSR is to put the people closest to the work in the decision making process. When Vena is back on board, lower and middle management should be concerned.

Evidently you do need managers to tell you how to cross tracks and close truck doors as they are still doing so. It’s funny hearing people talking about useless managers. Usually the ones wanting managers gone are the ones with multiple discipline events, decertification events, or multiple injuries. If you are doing your job safely and following the rules, you shouldn’t be worried about a manager or FRA representative watching you.

Yes I agreed cut the useless managers we have we don’t need managers telling us how to cross tracks and how to close truck doors

I think it’s time for everyone in this company to start looking for another job. If Vena takes the job witch will probably happen everyone in this company who is left would wish they would have left before he becomes CEO. And trimming the fat. They will go to one carman working as mic in the train yards crews with only one man. Road crews will might as well not have any. The tracks are horrible because there’s nobody to fix them. Talk about the wreck in ohio we have locomotives smoking all the time with nobody to fix them because they fired all of them. This company is so unsafe it should be against the law of what this company is doing.

Decisions made at Up are rotten to the core, starting with board of directors on down . They preach safety and ethics, then tell Carmen don’t bad order so many bearings , cars , etc,,,. I have prayed about and put the whole mess of a company in Gods hands. I know I can’t fix it all, I just do what is right and honorable in my work area.

Signal maintenance work groups are spread so thin at it is, even cutting ONE more job would be the steak in the heart. I've been in three different work groups in 11 years. Everything is hanging by a thread. To every other signal guy that reads this, Don't be afraid to put something in R status!!! We can't keep showing higher ups everything on the ground is unicorns and rainbows. I'm ALWAYS getting questioned why I put an R on something. There's only so much ONE maintainer can get done. Cr---y part whoever becomes the CEO nothing will change.

Well I’m looking at the crew boards in my area and scratching my head wondering when the next train will be called because no crews are available. Gee I hope they don’t cut the boards cuz then trains will never move. But hey I guess if we get rid of more customers maybe they could pull it off.

Yea, if vena is appointed CEO he will definitely trim the fat….starting with TE&Y, Track, Signal, Maintenance, and any other union position he can cut. Theses posts are crazy thinking only managers will be cut. As for PSR bringing the workers closer to the work, well duh! Of course it is…cut off the Carmen and have the conductors inspect trains….combine signal maintainers territories so they can work round the clock, etc. We better quit thinking this is a good thing and realize Vena is the mastermind behind how the company is operating at this time. When the new CEO is brought on, he will be expected to bring immediate financial results and the quickest short term way to do this is cut headcount. We all should worry about what’s to come.

I hope so. Would love to see those managers get their tickets punched and sent packing. Most of them are more of an annoyance than a leader.

Yea all they do is approve payroll, approve hours of service, and tell you to do what we already now. Deff some fat can be trimmed on those guys. To many Chiefs not enough grunts.
