Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

How many employees will ExxonMobil get rid of this year? How?

Are we going to sell underperforming sites (Joilet, Corpus, and all of the Canadian and European sites) and count that as headcount reduction or PIP 8% again? Anyone see where some people who are obviously incompetent are "promoted" to other sites and people from other sites are moved to the assets that ExxonMobil wants to keep such as Baytown, Baton Rouge, Beaumont, and Singapore?

Anyone hear of new projects at the keeper sites and cancelled or no projects at the sites to be sold?

Baytown for one has a lot of projects in progress and many more in the pipeline. Anything else on other sites?

I am sure the people at any of XOM assets will be happy to be sold. Toxic management and unfair performance management system

Joliet is doing better than in the past but relative to other sites it is at the bottom, remember, it’s relative performance. Also Joliet is not integrated like other sites and the business environment in Illinois is not friendly to business.

Joliet is not in Exxon’s long term interest. Joliet does not produce as much free cash as other sites, ROI, ROA, etc is much lower than other sites. Once demand and prices decline, Joliet will once again be a drag on Exxon. Better to sell when at the top, the sale also helps reduce headcount. Expect sale to be complete by third quarter, just in time for the recession. The sale will be seen as a brilliant move by Mr. Woods.

Cutting EMHC by several thousand to reduce redundancy of positions created in Business &Technical Centers. Budapest, Bangalore Etc. Leasing out 50-70% of buildings at Houston Campus due to empty offices.

Frankly I’m surprised the Canadian office locations like Calgary are still around. Somehow at least on the EMIT side they managed to PIP/RIF the majority of good employees and left the management-types that are some of the worst examples of what’s wrong with EM culture.

We are currently 62,000 regular employees.

We are expected to reduce headcount to 50,000 to 53,000 regular employees.

All refineries are a cash machine right now which makes it the best time to sell. With demand declining and expected to decline further due to politics, Joliet will be losing money. Any expansion projects going on at Joliet? No, because they will be sold. Also, XOM will continue to move their worst employees to Joliet to ensure they can’t compete with Baton Rouge after Joliet is sold.
