Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

I'm getting too old for this

It's incredibly frustrating that despite my efforts to identify and address gaps in our department, my manager keeps responding with complete silence. It's as if my suggestions for improvement are falling on deaf ears. There's no interest in taking steps to improve even the simplest things. Apparently, WFC is content with maintaining the highly inefficient status quo and I'm an id--t for even trying.

If your manager is completely tuning you out - a sign that you are doomed!

Lessons are there for the quick study of "the game"--for example you might be in risk if you keep identifying major problems and are told to not worry about it, "let it go, or you might be". Look around you and see who is succeeding, the guy that forwards emails all day long, the team that got the SharePoint site redone, there is no appetite to do the right thing, there is only pressure and tone to cover it up, to ignore the obvious. That is the playing field and the rules, the problem is your ethics are in conflict with the game.

Wow.....these replies really resonate with my area. You must all work in Control with me. Complete dumpster fire. Literally nobody knows what is going on, nobody wants to help, nobody knows who has authority to make any decisions or even if a decision needs to be made at all, no managers have time/care to address concerns of staff as they are too busy running down pointless asks for their own manager.

The Bank is in a death spiral that nobody will address. Just keep watching the 'Everything is Great' parade and save yourself if possible else manage the pain with what have you. God Bless.

Why would you even care?
Let the DEI staff run the place and see where we are in three years.

There's still a decent number of employees who start each work day unsure if that day is their last. There is no recharge point, nothing WF is doing to make any assurances whether in a clearly communicated strategy or thoughtful outreach. Middle managers who want to keep their jobs are directing their energies to where the action is, which usually means spending less time or no time with employees who are not on board.

Employees are being victimized by actions of upper management. It's a conscious and ugly tactic to try and create distraught workers and essentially manage them out. Let's not forget about HR, might as well replace them with A.I. today, would do a much better job and save the company millions.

These are sensitive times where employees are literally holding on by their fingertips, hoping for severance or some clear direction on what to expect for the future of their jobs at WF. Unfortunately the historically low performing employees get a pass these days, they can rightfully hide behind the current workplace climate, enabling even further their reliably low quality output.

Notice I didn't even say anything yet about overall job happiness and opportunities. WF has no framework for incentivizing anyone to work harder. All they are focused on is making sure employees adhere to their vision of their interpretation of what the new workplace is (micro managing of all tasks, even the mundane).

Your actual value and skills advancement are of no concern at WF. What matters is that we all are obedient 'system players'. Borrowed phrase from sports, a system player can thrive without creativity or talent, following the coaches' system to a T and is not given much room for individuality.

For those of us who are unsure of what today will bring, being obedient now feels like being punished for something we didn't do. We always showed up to work, did our best, offered to be agents of change and help. Now we are being ignored, ghosted, forgotten, etc.

Our employment at WF right now feels like we are the main character in the Diving Bell and the Butterfly.

Malaise and frustration has hit middle management too. They are biding their time and trying to survive Charlie & Co, who has put them on alert they are also a target of layoffs. Managers have been conditioned to not bring problems to upper management which are going to take money to fix. The C-Suite only wants to hear good news and fake positivity and money-making ideas. If managers bring problems to the table, upper-management makes it look like they can’t control their employees or their departments. So they keep all the problems buried.

Wachovia leaders were the same, and they went bankrupt.

Maybe move to another group? They aren't all like that

Same here. There is apparently only one priority--cut expenses by eliminating positions regardless of what the contribution is. I can't get anyone to make a decision or support any suggested improvements. Nor is there even any semblance of a strategy or priority from senior management other than RTO. I can't even tell who our senior manager actually is anymore.

I stopped caring about this place the same day they stopped carrying about me.... day 2 of my employment.

I am seeing a terrible sense of malaise within my group. People that used to be very helpful, productive, and responsive now approach every question, any situation, all messages, with either argumentative positions or total neglect.

Too bad. The workplace here was never like this before.

Agreed. It's very difficult for me to "stop caring so much" psychologically. I'm self motivated and have worked hard for WF for a long time. RTO managed to do it though When Hudson Yards actions repeatedly scream 'we don't care', at some point you just have to follow suit for your own sanity.
