Thread regarding 3M layoffs

Loyalty towards 3M

Yesterday my team was on a receiving end of a speech from our manager that kept emphasizing company loyalty. He was serious! He honestly thinks that after everything that happened - from layoffs to lost benefits to horrible employee treatment - we need to "show loyalty to the company that has done so much for you." Is it any wonder things are as bad as they are when our management is this clueless?

Lmao how much crack was your manager smoking? Company loyalty doesn’t exist in an age where pensions are no longer a thing and the only way to get real raises are by job hopping every 2-3 years

Ha! That is hilarious that people still try the loyalty line.

An executive tried that in one of my groups a couple years ago and promptly got their a-s (verbally) handed back to them by the crowd. They never tried again.

News flash, nobody owes 3M any more loyalty than their employment agreement requires, no more, no less. Anything extra 3M (or any employer these days) needs to pay for, preferably with cash up front.

Some Great advice given to me by my Manager when I was put on notice of redundancy at 3M, show them no loyalty, because you will not get any in return.

our site is overwhelmingly happy to say no when asked to do anything other than our contracted hours and duties, we have been asked to do 2 or 3 tasks more due to retirees and unconcerned contingent workers still learning machinery and then leaving when trained. Our current management team have no vision and no people skills and cannot accept criticism when they are wrong, just like lowering their heads and hoping you leave the office, it is truly embarassing. Anyway it might be better for St Paul to shut the place and pay some veterans some money for their loss of hearing hardships, and give MR a few more dollars in his retirement fund,

That manager will be the first to take up another lucrative job outside 3M if he gets a good opportunity. I have seen too many of these kinds.

Another thing that I have seen is that he is close to retirement and wants the "good people to work in 3M to keep the share prices high". Heard this speech many a times!!!
