Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Change is the only constant at Nike

It’s both a blessing and curse.

It’s a blessing because Nike is more agile than most large companies. It’s a huge reason for Nike’s success.

It’s a curse because nothing is ever the same for very long. Just when you figure something out, bo-m. It will then change again. That gets tiresome.

As for the culture there’s no debating that Nike has changed. Those of us who have been around here for 20+ years could tell stories. Might just be my nostalgia but back then everything seemed easier, people were less uptight, and there was absolutely more of a family feel to working here. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss how things used to be.

@5afd+1lMXZJdh puts it perfectly.

The reorgs / RIFs over the past 7 years tie to poor leadership and planning. I think several leaders were asleep at the wheel with an under-performing HR team. Things are slowly getting better but man total chaos from literally 2018 - on.

No idea why I hung around this long, maybe I love the chaos or just keep holding out hope things will change. Maybe I need therapy.

I would use dysfunctional instead of agile. Org changes here are reactionary rather than efficiency-driven. I've personally had 6 managers in the last 2.5 years. That's not agile; that's an unholy mess.
