Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Who knew what when?

Does anyone know what levels were pre-notified before the Stankey e-mail?

Notification only at the corporate VP level or even higher than that?

Personally, I don't believe anyone at the AVP level or lower knew about this. It seems it was a complete information vacuum and that a lot of executive levels were not happy about how this all went down.

Just wondering-

You didn't risk sounding insensitive at all. You risked sounding like a complete id--t if you read that response and thought the poster was seriously talking about a vacation home.

Absolute dark humor/sarcasm. Sorry that wasn't detectable to you. Never been able to consider a second home, vacation home, etc.

I am from a long time VAR, many relationships at the AVP level for years. (former T'er) The AVP's were notified just before the email went out and are freaking out just as much as everyone else. Its obvious that management is looking to reduce headcount and the cheapest way to get rid of 25 year employees is to RTO and reduce office locations. Younger is cheaper... You all just got Stanked!

Post from TheLayoff.com

Also the spouse of a 25yr+ employee who had been keeping it to themselves while kids were home from college. Options seem to be find new job or flirt with financial disaster to stay with T. This isn't what we had in mind when thinking of investing in a second home.

We were told of a rumored RTO and # of days but NOT about the hubs

Any L2 and above who say they didn’t know about RTO is either fibbing or is totally alienated from his leadership. I’m telling you, a lot of people knew about this before Stankeys letter went out. Good L2 and L3s who trust their team told them in confidence prior to the email. For anyone to attack a poster for sharing on this site is so immature and petty. Believe what you want to and let others do the same.

My group was told of this two weeks before Stankey’s letter was sent out. Not one thing has changed from what they told us two weeks earlier. They. Knew.

If she was told something in advance, that would have been in confidence and likely a COBC violation.

What does it matter? No names were leaked. The purpose of this board is for employees to exchange information they couldn't normally get from their shady management. She did not deserve to get attacked by sharing what she was told by her management.

There were a number of people who had a clue this was going down. Scroll down in THIS forum to the week before the announcement. People we posting on it and they were called liars. Or told that it was ludicrous and would never happen.

Guys on this board are so disrespectful to women. I see no reason not to believe someone who shared what she was told.

Have you actually been on this site for any length of time? If she was told something in advance, that would have been in confidence and likely a COBC violation. Yet here we are. It doesn't matter though, most of us reading this won't be here in 3 months.

As so many times before, "she" must have ASSets that her leadership admired. Thus giving her the inside scoop.

No. “She” was told. And she’s not being surplused either. She was given a heads up on that too. Think what you want. She could care less.

“ I’m a 1st level and I was alerted a week prior to the letter coming out.”

What compelled you to take time out of your day to spread lies? L4’s were not even pre notified.

Yes he is probably a 1st level that got notified his job is going to a contractor some weeks ago. Their last day is the 1st of June. This is not part of the RTO, just a old fashioned AT&T surplus with the jobs being given to contractors.

For those of us that are lost, what does this email from Stankey say?

Way too much time is being spent in the past. Whoever posted this, it's time to start focusing on your future.

I'm a wife to an almost 25 year employee and it absolutely breaks my heart to see that AT&T employees are continually treated this way by this company that has no loyalty. There is NO excuse for the absolute professional disorganization in this circumstance.

Money should be clawed back from Stephenson and Stankey should be let go.
But then so should most of the board of directors.
Correcting a tailspin with flames.

Nobody is going to sell this place off, nor will it be allowed to fail.
That doesn't mean the sh*t won't hit the fan. Contracts breached, people layed off and contractors coming in..... It is a sad state of affairs for this company and shows the incompetent leadership at the wheel.

Many L3s will soon be gone. This is why they are also currently in the dark.

Everyone up to L3 in my org is lost and confused. The FAQ says ask your supervisor. My supervisor is absolutely clueless and has no real answers. No one knows anything or what is supposed to happen. Each area manager under the director has sent out their own interpretation of the document which in essence means nothing because no one knows what their designation is or is going to be. All they say is go to the office in webphone. This execution has been a total disaster and I'm embarrassed for the company.

Got surplussed recently - out of curiosity what was the message from Stankey?

Was in a relatively small group call with my VP with individual contributors up to other VPs on the call. After many left, discussion changed to the only topic any one is really but effort into ( figuring out the tea leaves).

It was clear that the VPs were caught off guard. I was amazed at how openly they were talking about how poorly this was being done. My VP is always up beat on AT&T. Not on this little side bar call today. He’s in Dallas and personally will be fine, but he does not see a lot of his goals for the future going “up on smoke. “

The quickness of the announcement with very little underlying information seems to be a result of the Q1 miss due to incredible mismanagement. Fire Stankey yes but first fire the CFO - he just seems to be clueless. I know I will get skewered for this comment, but he was solely a minority hire by Stankey to virtue signal to the BOD so he could keep his job.

My org notified the AVP level on a call 30 mins before the RTO email was sent.

Level 3 and above had a 15 min Stankey call where he announced it, the email went out half an hour later. They know as little as us peons.

Many AVP’s will be affected as well so I don’t think they were notified - none of this makes any logical business sense so the only logical explanation is to temporary shore up the balance sheet w/forced relocation layoffs, consolidate the work groups to central locations for easier sell off, Stankey position himself to retire in 2 years w/a golden parachute after T-Mobile buys out the business
