Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Management - Scared

Not sure about the rest of you, but I think all this cr-p is hitting the managers as well. My bosses boss was "displaced" a few weeks ago. And now my boss, who has always been an even keep type of boss, is raging at everyone and nit picking on every little thing. It's annoying to say the least and maddening to say the most.
For now I'll wait it out, but all this WF CR-P is taking it's toll on everyone and I'm sick of it. I just want to fast-forward a few months to when all this is wrapped up and the world is a different place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Managers put together "productivity" reports showing staff utilization. They can show whatever they want in these reports to favor their favorites & show the people they want to lay off as "under utilized". No-one checks their estimates or who is working on what. So, if you have a dishonest manager, which is pretty common here, they can tilt it however they want to, while claiming that the whole process was out of their control. Of course, they don't mention how they supplied the information that led to the decision.

People have no clue what their manager can and can't say or can or can't do.

Caveat - I'm sure there are some terrible managers out there. My lengthy experience at Wells Fargo has been very different than that. The vast majority of my managers have been great.

As for displacements - some managers do get a say in who is displaced. They may come up with the criteria and rank their employees. In other cases, the manager has no say in the who. Those decisions are made by people above them and can be based on things like location, their last performance rating or how well the employee is following RTO policy. Managers are generally given a number they need to reduce by. This isn't something managers want to do. Managers will almost always push back and plead their case that the cuts are too dramatic. They will almost always lose that argument.

Managers may or may not be told in advance about displacements. I've had both scenarios as a manager. Managers are not allowed to discuss layoffs with employees outside the narrow window provided by HR. If a manager breaks this rule they could find themselves being fired. Managers are forced to either lie or say something like "I cannot comment on any potential upcoming HR activities" when asked directly by a team member or in a team meeting.

It is an incredibly frustrating situation to be laid off, especially when the individual being laid off is a strong contributor. It is a very tough position to be in when you are the one being forced to make the reductions. Nobody walks away from the experience feeling good.

Our manager was lazy and a compulsive liar. She claimed she did not know we were being axed when she herself had not only gotten the list but picked a few herself. So when she got axed 2 months later we we all happy that she got in on the fun too of being dumped.

The managers don’t stand up for anyone so yes they are sh&t. If you are a good manager that is what you do. 99 percent of these wannabes should never have become a manager in the first place. No skills or personalities. But at Wells Fargo you don’t need people skills.

This last post is spot-on. Not ALL WF managers are sh-t, as a poster below claimed; true, some are nothing but corporate stooges, but I would venture that a great many are just as exhausted by the shenanigans of Charlie & Co. as the average employee. This place has turned into a giant he-l-hole, and bears NO resemblance to the company I began working for over a quarter of a century ago. I have too much time invested in WF than to do anything other than ride this thing right into the ground. Try to make me care…

Sr. Managers and Directors no longer have autonomy. We have to implement whatever direction is passed down to us. We have to do the dirty work. Our opinion of our team, our work, our employee ratings, or our management of our team is no longer relevant. We are just an employee, like everyone else, at the whim of the JPM C-suite.

Oh, my mgr is just the opposite! 1000% corporate man....choking us with RTO, OKRs, mid year reviews. I don't have to like him (and I don't) but I have to comply.

The managers I talk to are fatigued. Just because they are a manager doesn’t mean they aren’t as fed up about all the Bs being pushed. RTO started to lower morale, but then Wells kept piling on.
It’s hard to get motivated when your management isn’t either.
This company needs a serious reckoning.

What? Can we get back to the natural order of things on this blog where we all sh-t talk the RTO mandate? Nature is healing…

If you are a manager and try to explain why it's a bad business decision to offshore half your work and let go 1/3 of your onshore team, even if it is reasonable, because you actually KNOW the business, you're gonna get fired. The only way CS knows how to keep the stock price up is to buy back stock using the cash from using cheap labor and YOUR bonus.

Unfortunately, I don’t think this will ever be “wrapped up” as long as Charlie remains CEO. This awful chaos is our new normal with him and the c-suite.

This has been mental torture since Wells Fargo turned into a corrupt criminal company. Bringing in this Mafia CEO has been the final straw. Sh&t company. Managers are sh&t too
