Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Restoring morale is an urgent priority

Very few people still like their job here, and the rest would rather be working somewhere else. It is very obvious.

Apart from the fact that those at the top aren't doing anything about it, it's difficult for me to even imagine what could realistically be done to improve morale here, which is almost zero?

The leadership is destroying this company.

at the all hands manager meeting I attended yesterday, someone asked about what AT&T is doing about morale. The person who answered literally blew sunshine out of their bu-t and said something like "WE are AT&T and we need to be kind to each other and make this a good place to work" and come up with fun things, blah blah blah. Literally putting the responsibility of morale on the employee

Current leadership has destroyed this company...Stankey and many others should be shown the door...the BOD should be brought to task as well... Morale will increase when we see successful leadership....the current group radically changes strategy every few year - d-mb pipe provider, media company - failed DTV and TW deals, Xandr advertising seemed positive then sold off....they change their mind like the weather...they should be removed for lousy performance.. If Stankey and others were people of character and integrity they would step down.....the current strategy (Fiber and Mobility) has T competing in 2 commodity businesses that require tons of capital each year....and huge debt load leadership team has accrued, will be hobbled by this for a long time. Pizza parties, pot luck lunches, cookie exchanges won't help here....need radical leadership changes.

Step 1: Fire JTS and his entire table. Step 2: All BOD members step down.

Randell and Stankey have certainly not.

But they WANT morale low because they want 15,000 people to quit. They are doing this on purpose.

This is a symptom of a very sick company. One needs to look no further back than 2011. This is when Randy got away with the failed T-mobile merger. The BOD kept him on as CEO and Chairman of the Board. Then, Randy bought DirecTV at the height of cord cutting. Randy said we are "managing" decline in the telecom business so AT&T bought Warner Media. Then we saw what "decline" really looks like.
Someone asked "Where is McElfresh, well after the Town Hall when McElfresh told Stankey " WE CANNOT COST CUT YOUR WAY TO SUCCESS" He disappeared. Enter Stankey, who knew more about every business than anyone but has only coasted along on the momentum of decades of profitability. The only reason I can conceive that Stankey is still here is because he has the shovel that dug this hole and some kind of way the BOD thinks he can fill it back up.

Spot on, they wanted this to crush morale so 15,000 would quit.

They do not give a flying flip about your morale, not have they for a very long time.

These reek of ignorance at best -internal a$*-kissing or trolling at worst.

The majority of the people posting here have spent a respectable amount of time with AT&T, have been the face of AT&T and have taken pride being a part of AT&T and to see the decimation of this once great company as a result of the ineptitude of Randall, Stankey and the board is heartbreaking. Yes people complain and bit#% but that is because most care and know what T could have still been if it were not for the poor decisions-from the $4B ($3B in $$ + $1B in spectrum) t-mobile debacle, the $47B loss with the Time Warner "deal" to the $600M alien-vault overpriced acquisition and everything else in-between. that happened under these guys watch.

Hired in 1990. Moral was between good and great. Then sbc bought us and down the toilet it went. It’s been gone for 23 years and now someone thinks it needs to be fixed?

Hahahahahahahahaha

Not true...!

The Leadership has ALREADY destroyed this company! They've run it into the ground and are now trying to dig their way out of the mess by making the employees pay the exorbitant $135 billion price tag! It's utterly disgraceful and these poor excuses of senior leaders are responsible! Sad commentary, but definitely true!

“Did any one here consider what is best for the company and the shareholders? This is a business, if you have a small business and struggling you would do the same, you will cut jobs and let people go and find ways to strip them benefits and rights”

I can’t agree more, if you built your life around this losing business, and you thought you are secure, then you are fool, in this fast moving technology time 10 years in the same job means you are not skilled to do any other job, or any job, wake up and smell the coffee

When my project has an issue, I’m usually quick to help understand options for solutions and get the team moving forward. But now I don’t care, issues can stay open until a manager figures it out. I have no incentive to go above and beyond in a company where the only goal is getting rid of people, regardless of their skill or contributions. And enriching the people at the top.

If you really want to increase morale, start at the lowest level. Start up some programs at your hub or local office. Have you considered organizing a floor potluck lunch or monthly social hour with snacks? The possibilities e are endless. Take some initiative.

I would like to suggest a company sponsored pizza party. Third level and above can bring soda pop, cups, and bagged ice. This would be a great gesture by Stankey to hold out the olive branch. I'm not talking Dominos or Poppy Johns, Im talking neighborhood mom and pop pizza joints found in every neighborhood.

At this point, it may be very close to impossible to raise morale, short of recruiting an entire new workforce that has never heard of T or Stink.

However, the only place to start would be the immediate firing of everyone from the CEO down to the VP levels. A full purge of all of the incompetent cronies and liars would be just the beginning, but at this point it really is the only possible beginning.

Of course, that would take both leadership that acknowledges their uncountable errors and a Board of Directors with a set of grapes, so we all know this will never happen.
