Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Do it right the 1st time?

So proud to fix mistakes, really want to crow about this “achievement”

Though it had touted the idea for years at that point, Ford just announced that its over-the-air (OTA) updates would officially be known as Power-Up software updates back in May 2021, just after they began rolling out to owners of 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E and 2021 Ford F-150 models. Now that a full two years have passed since that historic occasion, we’re also getting a clearer picture of just how many Power-Up software updates FoMoCo has delivered over that time span – and it’s a lot.

According to Ford CEO Jim Farley, the company has doled out a whopping 13 million of these software updates to its vehicles over the past two years, which is a truly astounding figure, indeed. Those updates have run the gamut from mere bug fixes to improvements and the addition of numerous features, including Amazon Alexa integration.

Ford owners have also received or are set to receive a number of new features via these OTA updates moving forward, including the addition of things like video streaming apps, which give them the ability to watch TV shows and other media in a different way. Last October, select Ford Bronco and Ford F-150 models got an update enabling full screen Apple CarPlay functionality, while the recent BlueCruise 1.2 update brought forth a host of improvements and new features, many of which make the process of cruising around with that feature activated much smoother than before.

Competent software companies know to build a solid foundation and then incrementally deliver solid well tested modular functionality.
Building on the Ford Jello is difficult as no one will admit it is Jello and instead pervert software development methodologies to claim industry standards are followed to sprint a function and then rapidly deliver function enhancements (cough - bug fixes - cough)

@2nou

Doing something multiple times and expecting a different result every time is the definition of insanity.

Why do something right the first time, when you can do it multiple times for additional cost? It's not just a Ford concept.

Any competent software company limits the number of updates, because sometimes while fixing something you break something else. Crowing about 13 million updates doesn’t make Ford look good.

How many of those deployments were truly right the first time and not re-releases of bad software?
