Thread regarding Hertz layoffs

Hertz layoff’s May/June 2023

Hertz corporate had a mass layoff of 150 employees on May 23, 2023. Email appointments were sent in advance to the affected employees to schedule their reduction in force meeting with an HR representative and Sr. Leader.

Now remaining staff are being asked to document their job duties and present to their leader. Management refuses to deny that a second and third phase of employees will have their employment terminated.

Management is currently chaotic, and those remaining employed are looking for an immediate exit from the pandemonium and poorly managed organization.

Curious what severance was offered to those laid off circa May 2023 - 1 week per year of service? 2 years per??

Joe McPherson was a horrible leader. He only talked about himself. He and others stole money by accepting very low priced stocks then left. The entire company needs to be broken up and sold. I will never rent a car from this horrible managed company

Well what’s next for Hertz with Mr. Stone and Mr. Kirkham departing? It’s amazing to see “CEO Steve” focus only on EV and other photo opportunities. The two folks who led the company out of bankruptcy only get the stink eye from “CEO Steve.” I’ve weathered this storm known as Hertz for almost six years and will be transitioning to greener pastures at year’s end. I do know that Paul Stone is a great leader who had a tremendous impact on Hertz. His new company is so fortunate to have him as CEO. I am thankful for the support I received from Paul, Dwayne, Joe McPherson, Laura Smith, attorney Dave, Mark Guthrie, and other members of the Operations Leadership Team. But it is time to gladly move on with my life. I’m told by several former colleagues there is a great life after Hertz.

I was one of the ones let go. Had just had a death in the family and requested bereavement leave. No compassion. Pathetic severance, very little information from HR. Just heard they are doing it again.

I agree with all of the posts above! I was there for 5 years and my manager was (is) a gossiping, backstabbing kind of person. If you didn't gossip, she didn't bond with you. If she had a problem with an employee, she didn't go to the employee but instead when to other senior members of the group to gossip and complain about that employee. She then had the other people talk to me to see if they could find out if I had a problem with her or the work, etc. Her communication abilities on a work-level-only basis were terrible. Certain responsibilities would change and she wouldn't tell me and when I asked her about it she acted as if I was to blame. One time she flayed her arms and sighed in disgust that I even brought up the subject. When my anxiety would act up and I asked her a question about my job, she got annoyed with me and acted as if I was unreasonably asking her questions. She constantly gave me new duties without telling me. I caught her playing favorites and at the end, she ghosted me on my work duties. The overall work environment is unhappy. You can feel it as soon as you walked into the building. I loved the work that I did, just not the manager and her inability to actually be a manager. Just because you have a master's degree in your industry doesn't mean you were meant to be a manager.

You will be out if your boss is incompetent new hire and you threaten or challenge his lack of experience. These incompetent %*$ like to surround themselves with folks who will bow their head down to take orders.

5% from Procurement that was already under staffed. The remnants have no idea on what they are doing- they have stayed with the company for years. The new Procurement VP is a clown. All talk- they let go of really good ones including the old VP. The whole department runs at snail pace now..

Glad the head of HR got cut. She was a waste.

I've been with Hertz a short time. Standards for professional conduct are extraordinarily low. It's a company that feels like it's stuck at least thirty years in the past. No concept on process management or operational excellence. Probably cut 150 people without having a reasonable idea of what they even did because management is so disengaged.

Nice try. No one is being asked to document their job duties except those that didn't get cut but their value is in question. Likely a small group of you. Sad that your leader doesn't know what you do, and shameful that you don't know how to communicate up what value you bring (or a minimum what your duties are).

Run... The CEO and his leaders are self serving- no one really cares about the company or its employees.

I am one of those that was laid off. And it was a fustercluck! No concern for the emotions of those impacted or those remaining. Worst company I ever worked for and glad to be free.

Pathetic severance. For those remaining, get out now, it's not worth it!
