WD is targetting older employees in RIFs. I would not plan to work at WD after age 50. WD is a safe harbor for ex-CISCO executives, few others.
This is sadly very much true. Retiring from WD is no longer a given. The chances are higher that you'll be laid off before your time for retirement comes. Everybody should be prepared for this.
