Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

The prestige is gone

Each time I tell someone in a public interaction who my employer is, they ask if I’m ok and if I need help finding employment… profits may be high, but the prestige is gone.

This is going to cost the company so much in the future. If the prestige and reputation are gone, we will not be able to attract the best employees anymore. And when that happens, the quality of work and the results will go down. That's the future.

If you say "but it's great when the times are good" them clearly you're living in not so good times, which means it's probably time to "get out" as fast as possible. Sad, but truthfully, it's probably best for your mental and social well-being!

My boss ask me to interview a person yesterday

If I can save one person to not come here I will

Former Enron employees felt the same shame in mentioning the company who employed them and screwed them.

When I say I work in Exxon, I always get the question: The printers manufacturers? Who the he-l buys printers these days?

Even when getting the name wrong the reputation is bad.

EM used to target top recruits. Now EM targets low cost marginal recruits in 3rd world countries.

EM is accelerating towards He-l in a Handbasket.

Execs will get paid bonuses all the way down.

Yeah I actively avoid saying I work for EM in public. The best you can hope for is a neutral response, but more you will get a negative one on some level. When talking to people outside the industry, the lefties give you sh** about the environment, and other people just complain about about high gas prices. Inside the industry, boomers think you still work for "old exxon" and assume you're stuck up, and younger people in the industry think you're a su---r.

The company does not want the best employees. Look at who they are hiring in the low cost locations.

I no longer will mention the company’s name. I’ll say a company in Houston, an oil and gas company, etc.
