I have no coworkers in the office. They are all over the country. I sit is a dark corner with no one around me. It’s depressing and not essential to the work I do.

You are missing the point. I have to be on Zoom to communicate with my team. I am glad that you could just walk over to your colleagues. It is not option for me.

The reason why JPM is asking people to come in is so that you don't need to work that extra hour or even the lunch hour, but perhaps only 6 out of the 8 hours required. Why? Because communication flows easily when the person is sitting right next to you. All you have to do is turn your chair or take a 10 sec walk to their chair and ask them your question. This way it's quick, easy, and you can continue working with the answer given instead of you hesitating to ask them, waiting till tomorrow, or waiting for them to get back to you a few days later. If they get back to you in a few days, you may either have lost the customer (sale), or you have an unhappy customer who will now bring it's business elsewhere. Going to the office is a benefit for the company. It helps the company get answers quickly, makes communication flow easily, and gains business. You have a choice, go to the office or get replaced by someone who wants your job.
