Feedback on HR redeployment impact

I was laid off on 4/6 and there were a couple of HR redeployment calls to guide us to getting escalated in the internal recruitment efforts. Their ppt deck said their success rate is very high. My personal feedback and that your internal application process doesn't get consistently pushed through, as indicated. I had to reach out to HR several times. I know they are super busy, given all the enterprise wide layoffs but, honestly, I care about my ability to get the service they stated we, as impacted employees would get. I'd be interested in hearing feedback/experience from others who were impacted.

I was laid off 8/31/22. Last day of work was 9/22/22. I was in one of the redeployment groups & they did nothing to help get me into another position. They’d send out the spreadsheet with the positions that were open. However, many of them were in draft status or were frozen so no one could apply to those positions. I took my 11 week severance pkg and went on my way. Started a new job in January with another insurance company that was horrible. Left there at the end of April & went back to the hospital into an Assistant Nurse Manager position. I’m much happier than I’ve been in the last 7 months. Insurance companies only care about their bottom line.

I was part of the April 6 layoff's. I suspect there was another round last week and they sent out another round of 'we are here to help you stay in the company' meetings this week. I agree, the 2/3 retention rate does not seem accurate at all. We were told a recruiter would be assigned to us to help us find a position and that did not happen. When I asked directly I was told they were down 2 staff members so that was not the case any longer. I applied for about 30 positions very much in my wheelhouse and not in consideration for any. I was shocked because I have been there 20+ years and yes, my review this year was less than my usual really great to justify the layoff.

But also, the company that last week boasted about being 'Agile' is not worried about metrics any more and getting rid of Scrum Masters left and right. Putting that work on Dev leads. Even highly talented Scrum Coaches and Trainers were let go which was a shock. And yes, I'm sorry to hear about your daughter, I was in a call today with a Lady that was 8 months pregnant. First Quarter had good earnings, again, so it doesn't make any sense.

Don't waste your time, hiring freeze in place.

They give you a bad review to justify the layoff then you cannot apply to other internal jobs due to bad review.

I too was part of the 4/6 RIF and the 66% Success for rehiring they feed you is BS. I've worked for the company for a very long time and survived RIF's in the past and not one person I knew was able to continue within the company. They put in a hiring freeze and won't be open to hiring until after the May 4 last day.

I've been on both sides of this. I was laid off in 2022, but prior to that I had to do RIFs of staff so I know the process. Despite what they say, no one at that company really goes "above and beyond" to get you a job. Your name is on a spreadsheet with everyone else that has been laid off. That spreadsheet is distributed to all the hiring managers that have an open. They are encouraged to hire off that spreadsheet rather than go to the outside for hires, but no one really forces them to do so. The people I know that were successful in getting another job at United definitely used their connections in other departments and a lot of them had to take a demotion (down a grade level). If you don't have connections, it's going to be challenging to get a job because that spreadsheet has to be huge now.

Personally when I got laid off, I did not even open the internal job board. I'm at the tail end of my career and I said I would rather retire and not work again rather than work for any department at United/Optum. Fortunately I found another job at a smaller company last year and am a lot happier.

You must be smoking crack if you think I will go back to the people that don't give a damn about other humans.
