How do they think an employee feels upon learning that layoffs are happening from an email sent by his colleague who was laid off?? And how does such a practice of no transparency affect the morale of the remaining employees?

You really think leadership cares? News Flash.....they don't.
They religiously inform surviving same team members 15 mins before their team mates are culled. Not sure for legal reason or not. You don't want to be in the survivors call, trust me.
Unfortunately, none of the leadership team cares about how you feel. Even when they send the Employee Engagement survey, they are looking for a high number to brag about, but they don't care about your happiness or feelings. In fact, they probably want you to quit ... it helps their numbers and means a bigger bonus for them.
