RD will take over temporarily and close the deal, it’s what SS would have wanted after all. XOM will in fact pay an ungodly premium, because they realize their model is an outdated dinosaur. Contiguous acreage and proved inventory will be king. Worldwide exploration is full of expensive dry holes. They will harvest the profit centers (acreage) and dump the losers. Sorry PWM. A select few will be added to the XOM board. All overlapping roles will be cut. Ops, Field personnel, and a skeletal SPFD will survive.They will keep less than 5% of the entire company headcount.

SPFD is where aspiring engineers and geologists go to live out their entire careers at grades Engineer II and Geologist II, respectively.
