Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Is there a future for being an FSE?

they have already got rid of the install work and only break/fix left. I think they will also outsource all the work at some point also because the utilization numbers don't justify keeping so many staff. I think they will keep some FSE staff in bigger cities. What do you think?

I'd like an answer to the question @7ujx+1lYf6r35 posed as well.

Dell never had a Field Svcs team until acquiring EMC. Part of there Digital Transformation is to outsource it completely.

EMC wasn’t lean; it was heavy on layers and lean on spans. Dell is working out the EMC overhead. Not anti-EMC, just calling it like I see it

FSE WILL BE GONE WITHIN A YEAR OR SO. DELL IS SELLING THE COMPANY AND IS MAKING THE COMPANY AS LEAN AS POSSIBLE JUST LIKE EMC DID BEFORE SELLING TO DELL.

No future in FSE's(Field Srvs). They just want parts monkeys and get your daily banana. No technical skills necessary and pay will reflect that.

There is no future in being a FSE. It's clear to me that Dell don't operate like EMC used to. It's pretty sad to be honest because some of the most talented people in this company are in field services.

As an FSE I have handed my notice in as I don't see a future in this role. I don't see it being around in the next 5 years with the company outsourcing or selling off that part of the business. A lot of other companies already outsource the work so they are going to follow the rest of them. I looked at going to Unisys but they get paid about 30-40% less for the same work.

Doubtful that Dell will bring jobs back the history of the company for decades is to reduce jobs sell the business divisions. Outsource to third party by sending employees and product to HCL without the opportunity to continue working as a Dell employee using the partners which Dell Executives have labeled as frenemies.
As executives say:
“We’re also evaluating our business to make sure we have the right number of team members in the right roles and in areas where customers need us most,” a Dell spokesman said in a statement.

Not until the pendulum swings back on insourcing
