Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Perhaps someone disagrees?

No. Chevron does not value its (few and far between) successful oil explorers. Want proof? Just ask your Chevron recruiter or your contacts there if they can name just 4 or 5 current and successful oil explorers in the company. Maybe the geologist responsible for the Nargis discovery (Leviathan was a Noble discovery). Maybe an Exploration Manager who has actually found oil in their career. Maybe one of their "Fellows" who has actually found oil. They will hem and haw and have to get back to you - but they never will. Chevron is not an exploration company, their core strength is producing someone else's discovery.

OP: @yrn+1myx4Fdt I agree. Great post.

No. Chevron hasn't come up with an exploration target worth drilling in years. Nargis was named and mapped by ENI and others before we decided to drill. There isn't an explorer worth sh-t left in GoM or GNV. RL OR DoG? Both are mo--ns.

Look at our cash flow per barrel produced vs other large competitors. We are off the scale.

I wouldn’t say we are WAY outperforming. High oil prices in combination with massive operations is helping us. But we are not maximizing our potential. We have great acreage, talented people and access to cash. But are we investing that in improving our exploration and production? I don’t see that much. I see us investing into digital nonsense, change management, consultants, agile, affinity groups …. Yes, we are doing good financially
, but Imagine how good we would be if we focused on business first and foremost

But we are WAY outperforming our peers financially. So there's that.

This company does not value technical knowledge. Everything revolves around we lead behaviors and it feels even cult like sometimes. We are behind peers in many aspects and it is the consequence of our culture that just prioritizes wrong things…

True. But we don’t actually value technical knowledge either. Don’t get me started on fellows. I was chatting with one and trust me they are not an expert, brown moser yes but technical expert no. Plus they clearly don’t know how to manage money as they are old and stil working at this place

OP knows nothing of the Exploration department or was drummed out of it for gross incompetence.
