What's happening at AT&T isn't really a "Return to Work". It is far broader than that, with the massive consolidation of work areas, purported reorganization of distributed teams, etc. It is being couched as RTO- but that is gas lighting; that this is ostensibly the "fault" of the workforce for not being "RTO" enough. It's a reduction in force without having to pay severance. It seems like a desperate move.
I haven't seen many people mention this. Everybody is so fixated on the RTO and relocation aspect that they are missing the real truth behind this. Yes, some severance might get paid to people who decide not to relocate, but I'm betting you it will not be anything like if it was an actual layoff. AT&T and Stanky want to get rid of as many people as they can while paying as little as possible. This is the way they decided to use.
