Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Purpose, are you ready to talk?

The company’s yearly buzzword, “ Purpose” is a marketing technique to try and get employees re-engaged after morale has been driven to their lowest levels. A sells ploy to try and get employees to think of only the few positives then develop passion and buy in to the season of change (new normal). Basically trying to motivate a disincentivized work force due to spreading the peanut butter (layoffs), policy changes, benefit reductions in PTO, medical, pension, lack of training, little to no R&D for new products, dividend reduction, hiring freezes, capital expense pause on new projects, missed financial projections, etc..

Not going to work for long term loyal employees who have seen drastic changes for the worse, most are just now trying to make retirement but are in a quandary due to age and service. The “leadership” is rebooting with massive reductions, contracting, offshoring, selling of assets, centralized hubs, more benefit reductions, etc… It’s a fresh start of the new normal from 1st to last, now following instead of leading. What a legacy! :-(

The problem they face is that much of the people they are trying to gaslight are well aware of this, especially after the lies we have been told by authority figures since 2020. The other problem is the few people that still are bobble heads that blindly do as they’re told. It is a culture of submissive distrust. Authoritarianism is always destined for failure.

This is a deliberate technique right out of a military psychological warfare playbook. They absolutely want to demoralize the work force. It’s intentional.

Why does Stankey still have a job here? Has the board not seen enough?

Good talking points. I’m extremely motivated to pivot my purpose to work in synergy with both my active disengagement and can’t give a damn. The visibility of the current corporate culture has catapulted my idgaf into stellar new heights.

The stated goal is a 15,000 employee reduction by end of the year per CEO. They also promised 16 billion free cash flow to Wall Street by year end too, only 1 billion 1st quarter. They stated it’s all coming on the back end, the check is in the mail…lol

“ I’m not moving. I’m not training my replacement.”

Train them poorly and then say “they just aren’t getting it.”

Don’t forget to bring your bug spray, soap, Lysol, toilet paper, paper towels, toilet brush and mop with bucket when you relocate to your new office. Most are disgusting, they’ve cut CRE’s budget to the bone and laid off the managers who are now contractors.

It happened on “Purpose” alright, due to the inaction of large investors and a complicit board of directors who rubber stamped everything. No accountability for a decade of bad leadership, result is a failing company and employees under the C-suite are paying the price for those decisions. Stankey and company are now lifting the cushions looking for change to correct a titanic mountain of debt.
