Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

Note to TheLayOff Moderators

If you’re too heavy handed or aggressive with deleting posts people will stop using your service. Negative reactions to Corporate Executives ineptitude and possible malfeasance should be expected. Free and open communications may be our only way of combating bad actors in the corporate world. You have a wonderful concept here, don’t F it up with your own corporate think.

@1oll Not sure if you get the irony of having a hissy fit about other people’s concerns mate.

Censorship of a website. What a concept. I’m here with popcorn just for the entertainment and occasionally some accurate layoff rumors.

Frankly layoff.com does not give two hoots about people whining about censorship. They have guidelines for reasons and if you can't deal with it, either leave or call a waahmbulance.

Just start a new thread, it's not like you have a user ID here, so just start again. Mods are dealing with many thousands of messages every day (just look at how quickly things get posted on non-Seagate threads). Now, you have humans deleting things and there will be bias. In general I think they are OK, I save my long posts just in case mods nuke them. Also, you can archive posts on www.Archive.IS - they grab content and never delete anything - I think they are located in the Netherlands and the verbal/writtent delict laws there are fairly lax - so you can pretty much say/write anything you want... I am not sure about names though. I know it's OK to use the executive team names as they are a public team - but not sure about the rest.

Moderating is hard.

One political area I think is fair game. If the company has a large D&I staff and budget that takes away from things that actually help them make money. I know some would say the opposite but it’s a fair debate

Same thing has happened on the WDC thread. I understand abuse and personal attacks are fair for deleting but it has gone well beyond that. This is not a free speech issue but if you suppress too much we are all leaving

Right on mate! The truth shall let you free. But there are some people who can’t handle the truth! They try to silence us because they don’t have real arguments to present, only feelings hurt, the w o k e are actually the w e a k, wink! May the odds ever be in your favor.

I'm guessing someone from Seagate is reporting posts to get anything they deem negative towards taken off the page.

Even inside of this thread we have deleting going on for honestly nothing objectionable, which only serves to make the point of over aggressive moderation. BTW when you tell someone to find something more constructive to do with their time, while you’re posting on the same very same web page…….um maybe think before you post.

Anytime you mention customers, IP, or make bullying or petty comments naming individuals, expect your posts to be deleted. It’s not rocket science. And honestly maybe find something more constructive to do with your time. If you don’t like working at Seagate, vote with your feet.

Very interesting case study we have going on here. On one side of the issue we those who want to challenge the rules or possible over use of the rules. On the other side we have the a view point of follow the rules as stated because resistance is futile? Freedom and openness can cause some discomfort. Also the lay-off has to guard against possible painful lawsuits. It’s a balancing act one would presume.

Well conversely, if people didn't start throwing in political and personal BS and company IP, the thread would probably survive. They have rules, we either live with them or go somewhere else. Whining to the borg Layoff has zero effect.
