Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

RTO for differences

As a full time office worker I’ve noticed as people start to return to the office they take Mondays and Friday's off and show up around 9 and leave around 3. Why do i have to work 40hrs in office when others don’t? My job can be done from anywhere. I’m told we perform better when we’re together but that doesn’t apply evenly to other groups.

"Because of limited seating in some locations the employee will not be picking their in office days. They will be assigned their in office days to work around the seating limitations."

Imaging the clusterfu-k that the company managed 'who sits where when' system will be.

“Well some tech is sitting in his damn truck right now sleeping too. The same tech will call and ask for overtime later to finish the job. How do you feel about that???”

The only time a tech gets to sc--w off is if our products aren’t selling well. Furthermore he’s out there in all types of weather on call weekends ice storms heatwaves and he’s the one guy that we need when the cell tower is down etc. you can’t fix that from home. If you quit your wfh job tomorrow your cell phone would still work correct? That’s all they care about the service is up then the bill is paid. Everything else they will automate.

“Why do you think we’re not working 40 hours? I start my day at seven working till 830 arrive at the office at nine, take no lunch, leave at three, log back in at home at 3:30 and finish my day. We have flexibility to do What works best for us. It’s called management, you can apply if you want to.”

Back in the office 3 days a week..8-4:30. L1 under the radar.
I see people come and go, not my business. Work/metrics are tracked.
Three years remote; same productivity but I could work in my Mickey Mouse boxers.

My craft pal--got a notice this week; take the money or bump someone off their gig.

good luck

Sounds like people like the 9 to 3 with Monday Friday off. Can’t blame them.

The only reason you would be so interested in the exact office hours is if you're a union (represented/hourly) employee or a level 1 manager in an individual contributor role (IC1/IC2/IC3) that is designated in the hourly bucket where you are OT non-exempt. All level 1 supervisory managers and all employees at L2+ are salaried and OT exempt. Hourly employees are OT non-exempt.

For example, a L2+ individual contributor (Let's use Professional-Software Engineer/IC4 as an example) does not have mandated 40 office hours because it's a salaried position. If that individual can meet all task/project requirements and commitments working 40 hours a week, then so be it. If it takes 50+ hours a week, so be it. If it takes 35 hours per week, so be it. The tradeoff for being salaried is that you don't get paid OT.

Sounds like the OP is a little bu-t hurt because he/she is in an hourly job designation and things just aren't fair. Well, sorry about your little feelings being hurt. If it bothers you so much, go apply for a salaried position.

Do you work off hours? Get called to work on an issue at midnight? Do you work 3-4 hours an evening on production systems regularly? 😐

"T can no longer afford all the lost producibility."

I think you mean productivity. Which actually went up when people worked from home. Productivity isn't the problem; strategy is.

Slowly start coming in later and leaving earlier. If you can’t beat ‘em, join em. Unless your craft we can’t do that. Sad face.

Why are you worrying about things you have no control over (other people's comings and goings)?

What are you going to do about it?

Citizen's arrest?

Because I want mondays and fridays at home like everyone else. Pretty simple duh.

This is one of the primary reasons for the new RTO mandates. Many full-time employees haven’t been working full-time hours/schedules for a long time. T can no longer afford all the lost producibility.
