Thread regarding Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. layoffs

Layoffs and Media

Do you have contact at LinkedIn or someplace else you can notify to bring attention to the layoffs? Very sneaky how this is playing out, layoffs within all divisions on weekly basis. Everything swept under the rug. Unless you are human resources or senior leadership it is not discussed. Understand this is a natural path businesses face, but I want to see Media report on this.

Line Management is considered non-billable. They do not bill to a project code but to admin/overhead. Not all LM was affected but a lot of people were. Decreasing by 20%.

What jobs are classified as non billable?

Post ID: @cgjy+1n9oHwpp

Yes, reorg happening and non-billable staff were laid off, I being one of them. CVMETCC hit hard and many had been with the company 20+ years. No consideration given to try and attempt to reclassify into billable roles. The work is there however there are not enough people to fill the roles. If I had a choice to keep my job and be billable I would. They don't care about the people only the bottom line. A Line Manager can make or break someone's career and they have such a profound impact on people.

PV, Project Delivery, PSO, CDM, all got hit by layoffs, mostly impacting non-billable staff, both on director and specialist levels. More to come in October probably

I was a Sr Staff level IC and I was laid off on 6/22. On 6/21, I received a "touchbase" meeting invite with my senior manager. In that meeting, there was a Sr HR Manager in the call without being in the meeting details and she informed me that my job had been eliminated, 6/22 was my last working day, and that I am being given 4 weeks of severance pay. In less than 2 hours after that call, they removed my access to everything. I don't know much outside of this, but I know at least 4 people were laid off with me including multiple Senior Managers.

Everyone that got laid off was notified today already. But they couldn’t confirm if layoffs were going to happen again. Anyone know who was let go?

I’m having an all hands meeting tomorrow and will update. Hope that, as someone wrote already, if they invite you, they’re not firing you.

What does LM mean?

If LMs have been left off the invites, they are probably being let go.

They're laying people off on the day they post the WARN notice. At least that's how it was with the IT layoffs last month. They paid people out through the two months between laying off/filing the notice and the date in the notice.

Tomorrows call isn’t a mass layoff literally the whole department is invited. They’re just announcing that they’re going to be reducing duplicate roles and trying to make things more efficient along with other updates. WARN notices are only required for plants and then specific mass layoffs over a 30 day period. They seem to be doing this strategically and in small batches therefore no WARN notice is required

How are they getting away with these layoffs and not posting WARN notices with the state? The only ones I've seen are with CA, and NJ.

Received a 'Business Update' calendar invite. Looks to be the whole of the CV Met department on the invite, from top to bottom roles.

No one in management seems to know what it is about and some LMs have been left off the invite and are in the dark.

All-Hands call invite “Business Update” came to all CDM colleagues for 12:30p EDT on Wednesday. My LM, AD, and ED claim to know nothing about it

So anybody get that invite for the all hands call on Wednesday and Thursday? It says only go to 1 call and so I’m thinking it’s not that cuz if it was why would he get to pick? I’m in DM any ideas?

To the anon who mentioned a meeting invite from somebody in their management tree, don't always count on that. Don't count on the subject being a clue either. I got a "1 on 1 with X" scheduled from a Sr Dir outside of my tree completely. He's the one who informed me, because my manager was unaware the layoffs were happening, and the Dir and Sr Dir above my manager were both also laid off at the same time.

PPD CRG already has a project manager only and a people manger only. My people manager is not a PM. Just a LM

They started moving around direct reports recently... Talks of "people manager only or project manager only" roles. Is this a red flag? Has this happened to other sites?

There will be a calendar invite sent out close to the event from someone in your mgmt team. You should be able to tell by the subject meeting if you’re being let go. Most individuals for this round in CDSD in CRG are being notified 28/29 June. I am unsure if labs are being impacted too.

I haven’t seen any posts on LinkedIn about layoffs/RIF. Last one I saw was US Procurement. The layoffs are so small and it’s not being announced. I work in DM so I guess I’ll see what happens on Wednesday

ThermoFisher is now saying that by end of the month legacy PPD teams can have no more than 20% of employees in people manager roles.

You can't stop a company from laying off people. All we can do is stay informed and secure backup jobs now. Are you saying they laid off people at PPD/CRG today? Which ones?

It’s happened in different countries with CRG/PPD / clinical team and HR! and lots of people cut off in one day. And what we can do here to stop it???

There are some big names (heads of dept/TUs) being let go on 28 June globally. Quite a few individual contributors too across PVG / DM. 28 June is the day to watch….

LSLPG's customer care team lost team members recently; cuts in BPG for all divisions .. poor management of how it was handled - people were notified on conference cll. Talent Aq were let go this month 2

Of course senior leadership says that, if they were honest it would cause unrest and mass resignation. Hundreds in PPD have been cut, with more waves coming. Hiring happens, but not like before. Large number of PPD human resource team were just let go due to this. Which brings my point to needing media attention. Teams are being blindsided every day, while messaging to those left is there is we have nothing to worry about which is utter BS. My team was told that and bo-m, two weeks later 60-75% were gone
