I certainly didn't do any of those "golden age things when I worked there. Plenty of people did, and that allowed them to network, gossip, and play the game better. But those days are long past as SAS is finally facing market reality.

I really think a lot of people here confuse SAS for a charity. Is the product you are working on selling millions? Do you have customers beating down your door during a financial crisis? How on Earth can you be upset that you didn't get a big fat raise when the entire global market went down? Even no layoffs during that time was a big deal as other companies were doing huge cuts.

SAS has abandoned it's "Golden Age" policies? Maybe the general "show up at 9:30am. Eat breakfast for an hour. Play soccer for two hours. Eat lunch for two hours. Attend a meeting and leave by 4pm" mentality made those policies erode as the company struggled to meet the demands of customers.

Yes, Goodnight used to say that, but I doubt if he says it anymore (at least not with a straight face). When the financial crisis hit, he said there would be no raises and no layoffs, now get back to work. It was brilliant; it did wonders for morale. The voluntary buyouts were a wonderful transition (at least for those of us eligible) from trying to get people to come back each day to showing people the door. Now SAS is increasingly abandoning the "golden age" policies that once made it a fantastic place to work. As a retiree with many friends still employed there, I am sad to see the transition.

SAS linkedIn, otherwise known as "The Echo Chamber". I'm sure this is an issue for other companies on LinkedIn as well.

Point taken, yet the other 5% could be Jim’s buildings in this reference.

What about the other 5% that drive out every day?
