The Peter Principle is alive and well at Nike. I’ve noticed several positions in my org have been filled without any observable interview process taking place. Colleagues in other divisions have noticed the same. I thought this was illegal or at least contrary to Nike accepted practice.
Disappointed…..

as far as I know the only law...is around the job must be posted at least internally.
But then you see these job reqs with very specific job postings...that only stay up a week :-) hmmmmm
Some openings are talent mapped and others are open for interviews. Additionally, sometimes external talent that has already interviewed extensively is waiting for an appropriate role to open.
How is "The little star" still at Nike???
Ugh.
The worst.
Not illegal OP but there is definitely a hiring process that is supposed to be followed. Sometimes however certain people are “placed” in positions that should have been opened up to competitive interviews. In my experience more often than not the “placed” person is at best somewhat under-qualified and at worst very obviously has no idea what they’re doing.
It’s almost always done as a favor or reward to someone and yes this does cause real issues when the placed person’s lack of solid qualifications are inevitably revealed. The problem could be solved if HR actually enforced its own policies. But just as with every large company Nike is ultimately a political organization. Meaning some people are allowed to break the rules and HR will just pretend like they don’t know it happened.
It’s also not good to be that placed person because everyone eventually figures out that you don’t know what you’re doing. Then everyone politely acts like no one knows what everyone knows. Awkward.
Well at least they are saving everyone 's time. Nearly all positions at Nike come with a preferred candidate (Read teachers pet) anyway so why keep up the charade of interviewing?
Is that why the close partnership with India was forced down my team’s throat? Half my coworkers left because they hated that standups started at 6am. They used to be 9am.
Not racist at all. A certain senior leader led by nepotism and that mindset now fills all of Nike.
Certain parts of the company looks more like an immigration port than a shoe retailer.
Why else would we suddenly be demanding highly specific masters degrees for generic entry level positions? Nike is getting caught up in visa fraud, right on the heels of that charity fraud fiasco.
On a related note, after nearly a decade of meaningful toiling here, I was reorged into a role I have zero experience, qualifications, or certs for. No one seems to care. "It'll be fine", they said...So, anonymous but sincerest apologies to my stakeholders for sounding like the village id--t in every meeting. Next CFE should be a blast.
I am sounding racist(technically i cannot be called so as i am from same geography)but are these folks from a specific geography by birth ?
I know lots of contractors at Nike getting full-time and full time getting promoted in around my neighborhood.
this has been ongoing a lot, people at level 2 made to be a Lead/Manager why? well some say they stood up to the occasion, some say "they have been quite long in this team, and it was about time", and yet here I am giving 5+ hour tech interviews
Was it during a reorg or shuffle? They'll often use this b.s. excuse/timing to promote people.
