Thread regarding SAS Institute layoffs

retirement buyouts incoming within 30 days

rumors circulating that buyouts will be sent out in the next 30 days, min employee age 55 with at least 30 years of service is the magic number.

sad I'm not eligible. too old to be valued anynore but not old enough to escape yet. the magic number keeps rising as time goes on so clearly the hope is to clean out the oldest of the old.

How many employees could possibly be impacted using those criteria.

The first buyout package included up to one year of salary. Most senior employees qualified for the full year.

Friends who took the second buyout told me it was not as good as the first.

This is the way it usually happens. If there is a third buyout, I expect it will not be as good as the second.

30 years...so close and yet so far. How about a modified offer for 25-30 years :)

"If this round is only for 30+ years of service, the severance alone for someone with that tenure would be over a year salary."

Policy states severance capped at 52 weeks.

"Curious if anyone knows what these packages look like?"

Pre-covid it was 1 year salary+benefits (correct me if I'm wrong). If this round is only for 30+ years of service, the severance alone for someone with that tenure would be over a year salary.

Are you just trying to get us old guys excited? Did that rumor come to you from a credible source? I don't think they would have had last week's layoffs if this rumor were true.
