Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

What if mgmt actually had to prove their worthiness?

Imagine if Directors and above had to continually prove themselves? As it stands they are completely untouchable, from Director, all the way to Stankey. Imagine if the McKinzey group got ahold of AT&T!?! They would rip out 2/3rds of the mangers. It would become a textbook case for them, of “how NOT to structure the mgmt of your company!”

This is not true, the OP is dreaming. First neither of these consulting firms actually know telecom or do anything of value. How do I know you ask? Because in the last 7 years At&T hired Bain and McKinsey and Deloitte about two years apart in wireline and other places. They come in and attend your meetings, look at your projects, parrot your work and report it back just like you would to upper management. Nothing truly comes of it, just another leadership excercise and all three of the firms make bank. These companies are not experts at anything, far from it.

There were both L3 Directors and L4 AVPs part of our most recent workforce reduction. Most of them "retire" but make no mistake, they were laid off. You are allowed to do both and most of them have the service to call it a retirement.

You answered your own question. If Bain or McKinsey were hired, Stinkey and Co would be out. They know this. Therefore, they will not hire outside consulting firms to fire themselves.

The Board of Directors on the other hand, have a duty to the shareholders (some of which are us) and SHOULD be implementing this now! No chance it'll save our jobs but at least Stinky and all the other c-suites can go down with the ship, as honorable captains or leaders should (but they aren't)

There was a director that was installed ( checked all the right boxes if you know what I mean) after the previous director was walked out for taking kickbacks. All of this took place in the Texas market . Even less accountability after she took over. I think she got bounced to the Northeast where directors go to be shuffled out the door......... I am glad I left when I did 5 years ago.
