Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AskAT&T Ai is going to put a lot more of you out of a job.

How many jobs can this Ask AT&T Ai do? AT&T has sent out emails to workers encouraging everyone to use it. Those of you who don't will probably be surplussed while your workmate, who learned how to use it will do the work of 3 and put you on the street.

So, if you want to stay employed, you better learn and use Ask AT&T.

It is an elaborate text parser that searches Stack Overflow and regurgitates the closest response most of the time. It has no training on internal systems, so Bing is better.

I love Ask AT&T! Seriously. It is not just for software developers. It’s probably the best thing they came up with since Q messenger. I used it to help write my accomplishments, and I try to find ways to use it daily. It’s really fantastic and that’s a rare thing to say in this place.

The problem is T has very few actual s/w developers. Most are nano degree hacks that know very little about coding. People with worthwhile coding skills don't stick around long.

Leg said one problem is getting it to tell you “I don’t know” when appropriate. It’s helped me figure out Python code and explained SQL code to me. Use it like a coach and ask it questions.
Those of you job hunting, copy and paste your resume into Chat GPT and ask it for suggestions on improvement. If you see a job, ask it to write a cover letter for you. If you interview for a job, ask it to help you simulate the interview.

Honestly, there are so many systems that could be made more efficient by AI. I can already think of at least a dozen uses that would help sales teams.

The AI is a pretty good move. The solution for AT&T is to focus on software, cloud storage, fiber, and mobility.

AT&T is too systematically incompetent to effectively implement AI.

"LOL generative ai isn't going to put anyone out of work."

Not really saying the Ai will put people out of work. I'm saying AT&T employed this tool as another reason to shed so much of its workforce and expect who is left to use the Ai to do the work of 2 or 3.

Will it work? Maybe not. Ai is very limited ... but so is the vision, leadership, and mental capacity of AT&T C-Suite and management.

LOL generative ai isn't going to put anyone out of work. It may displace some of the workforce but new jobs will be created because of it. Many of our business leaders have rose colored glasses on and have apparently convinced their boss(es) that this tech is worthy of investment.
