Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Belittled this morning

This morning my manager made me feel incredibly inferior - since then just having a wonderful day as I feel my mid year review going to be bad - but I do stuff above my level everyday. Thinking about escalating honestly. But if I do - I will have to continue working with my boss.

My manager really isn’t smart enough to effectively evaluate performance. She just copies and pastes standard comments (or my self-eval comments) into the reviews, and often has to make corrections for getting something wrong (copied from some other person’s review by mistake) or for leaving out a significant project. I think she’s not respected during calibrations. Her opinion doesn’t matter in the least to me. Still, she is somewhat better than the previous manager who used another employee’s name in my review. Careful with that copy and paste feature! Hope to see both gone very soon.

No one is responsible for YOUR feelings.
You are in control of how YOU feel .... no one else.

I would be asking myself "did I earn that comment?", if not in my little world it no longer exists.....If I did earn that comment, that is on me....sometimes truth is difficult to take.

Seems to really be a theme this mid-year review process. My boss told us we would have our reviews two days this week. Monday everyone was normal on calls. After Tues and Wed (review days) there was a DEFINITE downturn in the atmosphere from the entire team. I know I was one of them. SAD that managers are told to basically, it seems anyway, to badger folks to make them unhappy enough to leave. Guess the c-suite folks figured out that paying 2 months of non-working time, then severance with layoffs was a stupid idea. But oh well. We're all still doing our jobs...but I'm guessing no one will go above and beyond any longer. WHY DO THEY DO THIS?!!! It's only going to backfire miserably on the entire company. Id--ts!

Most bosses will make one feel a bit low at some point in the business relationship. Sometimes it is without knowing. Lighten up, toughen up, you're working for a company.

  1. This is a layoff board, not a mental health helpline.
  2. You decide how you feel.
  3. Find a new job, move around, pick up new skills. Become a better employee and then you won’t have to rely on or worry about what your boss thinks.

Before you report anything, look for a new job because:

That's the one person in years who actually managed to win. Nobody else ever wins. Just look for a new job.

Don't go to HR. They only protect the company. Start looking for a new job.

I worked for a manager that did not understand my job. When things went bad, I was summonsed and told how I fuuuucked up when it was others. On one occasion, we were arguing and he asked if he needed to write down my job responsibilities and I answer yes. He got on the key board, but stopped because he really did not understand things well enough. He was fired after a few months and a climate survey in the team. There are a lot of terrible managers here and HR only cares when there is Wells risk. Good luck with your situation.

I’m absolutely not afraid to tell my manager to go fu-k himself if he tried to treat me like a child.
More need to do this.

Sorry to hear that. That’s where the “people don’t leave jobs, they leave managers” comes from. A bad manager can make a great employee unmotivated. Can you share more specifics of the circumstance? Perhaps we can offer some helpful suggestions on how to engage. Obviously ignore people like to two bafoons that had responded with no helpfulness whatsoever. Some people on here actually try to be useful, others not as much.
