Thread regarding Nielsen layoffs

Layoffs coming 2nd or 3rd week of August

“And the cuts will be deep” he said My boss told me today they will be far and wide. The ask is for 20% headcount reduction. Field will be spared until Q1 then they will be whacked. Will be a bloody end to the Summer.

Going back to an earlier comment on this post, Nielsen does seem to have a large number of employees that fall into the individual contributor status. Many of us have always wondered what they do and what is their purpose. They may come into a department, in essence do the job of the department manager and then they are gone and everyone goes back to following the managers lead.

I agree, Nielsen has so many people funneling data to senior leadership on where we are bleeding money, I wonder if they are including themselves in that data.

Too many no value added managerial positions. Then even created a position to be a MR liaison with management. Effectively adding another unnecessary management position. This company will not exist if another company decides to invest in gathering all this data. Luckily for Nielsen, no other company is willing to risk the debt required. Wouldn’t be surprised if this company gets skinnied down and sold…either in functional pieces or as a whole.

TownHall this week, I hope the people that are so vocal on these threads will speak up during the TownHall.

20% cut in headcount to help reduce costs?

Will Senior Leadership take over the day to day tasks?

Fringe positions that don’t have assigned responsibilities. Consultants or Analysts that spend their days pointing out the obvious but providing no solutions.

I would caution against eliminating the employees who actually do the work.
