Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

I'm sorry to hurt you...

....but look, this isn't a Schwab thing. It's the business cycle of the job market. In 2009 there were no jobs and millennial employees had to look and act picture-perfect to be considered for a cushy corporate job that paid decently. That cycle started to trend toward a job seekers' market in 2015 and probably would have run its course if not for the pandemic in 2020. At that time, employees/ jobseekers could demand whatever they wanted of employers and corporations had to care about domestic needs, emotional wellbeing, pronouns, etc. Like never before.
Well, the cycle is coming back in favor of employers and we employees will have to fit into boxes again to earn their favor. I'm not suggesting that everyone should feel great about it. But it's useless for us to pretend that you, employees/jobseekers, are going to easily find an alternative. Employers can demand more as jobs diminish. Schwab pays more than most companies - most people won't find a higher paying position when severed. It su-ks but your best option is to use up tuition reimbursement + sick time, gain whatever exposure you have to leadership to add the skills you needs to be tomorrow's decision-makers and leaders. Or find how you can add more value. Or find a protégé and teach them what no one else can before you get axed. Again, it su-ks. But let's not act like the environment is different than it is. It's game time.

Nicely put. And as someone that speaks to clients, I can see your very professional Schwab side, and these direct words were hard to get out.

Hate to break it to you, but Schwab pays cr-p...especially if you've been here long enough. I am out there looking and everything I am going for will easily be $20k more than I make now for the SAME title.

What a groveling dog. Companies must love you! And for whoever said Gen X, I'm Gen X. We don't all think this way. Tell me, OP, a company decides to pull this st, why exactly would I want to find how I can add more value or teach someone everything I know? Let the company feel what little pain when I leave. I'm not doing jack st to help them out or look better.
