Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Incompetent management

Remember - management is made up of folks who made brilliant decisions like invest billions in proprietary software when that was not our core competence, only to abandon them when the writing was on the wall - and hiring staff like there was no tomorrow - only to lay them off in droves.

People need to remember things like this when they think about EM's management. The results are cyclical, but the management's idiocy is eternal.

They bought millions and billions in software to get kickbacks and /or seats as a board member. They do it in plain view. Everyone knows but wont say a word about the shenanigans.

Like the Manager that proposed to Dallas that we sell all of EM’s interest in Guyana before drilling an exploration well even though his entire group concluded it could be the biggest find in decades?

EM kept that guy and covered that up.

Luckily Dallas only sold half EM’s interest based on that recommendation.

It is not only the idiocy of management but the imbecility of the new hires.

What kind of id--t can accept a job offer from this garbage of a company?

Don't forget to mention that the brilliant managers that spent a billion of $ in software development have been handsomely rewarded with thick pensions or big promotions, because they were all 'high potential'.

The problem is not the incompetence but the lack of accountability.

The so called 'high potential' individuals have license to fk up with no visible consequences.

It is a self fulfilling prophecy: because they are considered high potential, their failures are rationalized as "tolerable risks" instead of plane incompetence.

There's no mechanism in the system to "upgrade" potential assessment:

Once a Hi-Po always a Hi-Po.
