Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Do managers know already?

I know they're usually not part of the decision-making process, but what are the chances my manager knows by now whether I'm affected or not? He is a great and friendly guy, and I'd like to think he'd give me a hint in case this is true, but you never know. Would that be too much to expect?

Branch Manager here - We know nothing and it’s making us crazy. We don’t know what’s happening to us, our bosses, our regional leadership team, our business partners, our own employees.

I just had my 1:1 with my boss. She seemed perfectly fine and we went over goals.

I am staying focused. All I can say.

Unfortunately they cannot reveal who is being let go, in the end they must support the business. Even if your boss knew you were getting ready to close on a house, he couldn’t let you know you were going to be let go the next day. This is protecting Schwab and the remaining 30,000 employees.

I don’t see anything on my calendar nor heard anyone getting an invite. May be it’s not the day?

Definitely not. Even MDs only know a small amount and are panicking trying to cut as much as they can to save their own a-s. Directors and down know nothing but as expecting to lose their jobs at this point.

if he/she is below the managing director level, and really at this stage they'd need to be at the senior md level (what used to be svp) to have much insight. but he's the real deal, these things are very fluid and almost up until the last minute things can change. generally each group will be given a "task" to reduce costs by x and they'll keep working it through integrations up to the last. also, things happen in the external environment that can also impact whether those targets get increased/decreased during the process. your best bet, do you very best work and spend as little energy on speculation as possible - worse case you'll have a good story on how you stayed focus in a difficult time.

I want to have a conversation with my boss that if he has to choose someone please let it be me! Please please please. Every day I have been affirming I am so grateful and thankful that I got a nice layoff package. I wish it was voluntary.
