Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Ok lets review CA and his team accomplishments

  1. When CA took over in 2021 it was in middle of pandemic and he was lucky to have a wave to ride, so no accomplishment for that year. Whatever there was was either the work of former CEO or the wave of pandemic, low interest environment and massive WFH wave that he could sell products to these WFH people.
  2. He has acquired Nuvia without a single product out yet and even if it is out, PC market is not attractive anymore.
  3. He is waiting for China to recover so they may sell something there, what if China never recovers? what is plan B? there is no plan B. There was not any plan at all.
  4. CA and his team are managing a company that is producing chips for laptops, phones and all kind of wireless and virtual stuff, instead of encouraging more WFH (Like Attlassian) so he can sell more product to companies, and save money on leases which will come up soon, he shoot himself and the company in the foot by mandating 4 days a week RTO (which will be 5 days soon, because he wants some voluntary layoffs without severance to "Save cost"), not only that but he brings morale of the employees down. It is not about if WFH is good or bad, it is about a perk that he is cutting like everything else.
  5. Everytime he announces layoffs long before the event, so keep everyone in limbo and nobody knows who and when he/she will get affected. Good Job CA to bring the morale and productivity down for another 3 months. He knows the condition of the company, wall st expectation and earnings and income, so he could have already came up with the plan during the last 3 months and do the layoffs right away so people can decide for their life, but no he is not even capable of doing that.
  6. Cut bonuses, cut WFH, salary freeze, and bringing stocks down which is part of employees compensations, well that is the way to keep morale and productivity high, good job there too.
  7. Most of the big chip companies such as AMD, NVIDIA, even Intel, are on hiring freeze but no layoffs have happened there yet, probably they don't know how to manage like CA and his team.

Overall I would say I see a very bright CEO and team here.

Good luck everyone.

Victim of his own hype. People tired of hearing about adjacent markets to smartphones where QCOM has no success and makes no money. Current results spotlight that QCOM is a smartphone company only.
