Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Dell Storage team getting wacked, but how many ? Add updates

Sounds like Dell's storage team is being hit hard, NTM TSR and OSE ranks in EMEA and US. Also rumors that DTS org is no more, lots of heads and managers hit in US.
This article spells out the shift (sounds like "go partner, since we're gutting our storage sales org") :

https://www.crn.com/news/channel-news/dell-confirms-sales-layoffs-as-part-of-new-partner-led-storage-strategy

Dell President of Sales and Customer Operations Bill Scannell called the shift the “biggest change ever” in Dell’s go-to-market model (and sent an internal email that outlined more comp if you go to partners for storage).

“This is massive. This is exciting. We’ve been working on this for a while because we want to make sure we get it right,” he said. “But we got it right and it’s supported by Michael Dell, [Dell Vice Chairman and COO] Jeff Clarke, all the way through the organization.”

@ugr+1nZ0fVYa Pal just go sell PCs that are cr-p. Didn’t workout too good for Dell last time. Selling hardware is Prehistoric! They missed any opportunity being successful selling off VMware. Dell bit off more than it could chew.

@nvq+1nZ0fVYa : trolling you do?

ex-dell are so strange. Perhaps a word of advise , get a life.

ps. check on Dell patents done in last 24-months in reference to storage and tell me how fast behind all go

yes, it would have been nice to have top product at low prices - that's what all Sales love but that ain't going to happen with mgmt that knows it and wants to get most $$ off the market as oposide to pay sales most of the commission. That's the game

JC doesn't run storage - perhaps worth checking next time. JB does. As long as BD is around it's still old EMC development - good or bad .

Now, as you can see CSG margin and such is server margin vs storage . Basic 101 on profitability is here. Note very few of EMC guys are around and they mostly do great job - now selling to established account and getting 110% isn't quite the same as aquiring new customer so when some sales said they did 150% and were let go - mostly there was 5-10 people working on the deals and one less doesn't matter ( dell or ex-emc ) . That's what you see - and even so I may be affected as well even this week - I stand with a fact that if you bring no value and think ' I am doing great as I hit my 100% ' you may be corrected with "but we can do that without you' . So see where one creates value is the key - marketing it is another skill

Ironically the storage teams appear not to have been impacted with head cuts, 🤣.
Sadly, for those on the outside, Dell is today run by Billy Sc. (EMC) who has shielded his "core" and storage focused EMC favorites from any head cuts the past 3 layoff rounds, even with moving storage to partners, and the simple fact that the EMC teams have really NO CLUE what enterprise workloads or architecture is, other than asking how much storage do you need, which is old v competition. The other sad truth is how Dell sold their 👑 jewel of VMware to make Michael rich and scrambling to move r&d to prop up a cr-ppy scaleio suite as powerflex to fill the void lacking 80% of capabilities and gutted teams needed to sell anything that's not a commodity, even though pflx is not on any Gartner mq for hci nor distr storage that no customers want, unless forced or given for free and reimaged literally on site as bare metal. Ask to talk to references, nada!!
As today went, Dell tech and DTS was gutted, but EMC people left alone due to Billy's guidance, even w ?-20% YOY storage #'s, Dell core sales are actual sales numbers led by Dell large PowerEdge sales (not EMC products), but the PowerEdge sales teams were chopped to the bone and cut AGAIN today, most left saying today they are looking elsewhere since now have to cover several accounts. Jeff C. yes, is just a commodity pc person lifer w no enterprise experience and keeps prioritizing product reductions and removal of solution and parts options down to 1 choice per product thinking enterprise products work like laptops penny wise and pound foolish, otherwise taking the lead from Billy who knows nothing but legacy storage, the blind driving the bus over a cliff.
Expect some very bad Dell earnings coming as powerflex, apex, and EMC storage dies an ever rapid death since no one wants to buy them!
PowerEdge is #1, but let's gut those product and sales teams is the logic behind today's Dell strategy, thinking customers want to transform to multi cloud apexed powerflex in a market where customers have No budgets for big transformations or high margin HCI products.

@ima+1nZ0fVYa, yep, and they got rid of a lot of GIAs and DMs in February, the people who do the actual B2B integrations so now there is no people left to do them. OBM/GIA/DM-teams were cut by 40% in February.

"Parters will pick the easiest vendor to deal with, Partners want simple ordering tools, B2B api etc.. We can’t even get that working internally but let’s leave the “partners” deal with it.. partners will goto NetApp , HPE, Pure and IBM. Dell old school ELT have no clue about enterprise solutions., especially Jeff C and Doug S. New visionary ELT team need to be brought in and boot out the Texas boys club"

This is 1000% true, this was already happening when things were "good". Pure Storage, net app, are literally salivating at the mouth right about now for new talent and will capitalize on this disarray at the SS Dell. Long term outlook looks bleak from a talent perspective as it is, but don't worry, they'll go full steam ahead with their sales graduate program to fill in the ranks..

Enterprises customer aren't use to being treated like client PC customers. Dell just doesn't get it! There goes Enterprise!
