Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

I thought Verizon valued culture?

If Verizon valued culture, they would outline specific steps for career progression and role changes. Not, "Hey, you want me to hire you? You gotta be like me first.." Amazon model, no interviews. You meet the steps and requirements you can move into the open role. I mean. Wow - could you imagine?

Veterans of VZ would be less angry if they had some flexibility to move around. I would love tonlearn more positions in this company but I'm blocked at every turn. Retail channel? What is that? Indirect? Never been there? Leadership? Can't get my shot at it. Why the block? Should I just quit? Not sure I'm wanted here. How many failed attempts to move to a new role do we need to see before realizing this company isn't for me? Where is diversity and inclusion? I thought we valued culture. Heck, Elon couldn't get a promotion here because when he sits at an interview he would have talked about the ideas he has for an electric car and electric jet. The hiring manager would look at him like he's and oddball and move to the next candidate. .. so much for diversity and inclusion. If you have a different idea.. keep it to yourself. You gotta be like me.. that's the only way to be successful

Assessments for the role I’m in? Hopefully you aren’t talking about the mid year and annual self assessment that my manager just put a comment on that says thanks for the hard work blah blah because that is worthless.

How do you expect to progress in a company that is shrinking? The reality is you won't progress until their is a business need. Doesn't matter what you do, it's about the larger business conditions. There's not set of hoops you can jump through.

The interview questions don’t pertain to the job but they’re required by HR to be from a list that gives everyone an equal chance. I’m sure they’d rather hire a new person that’s eager than an angry vz veteran. The question judge personality more than qualifications

Actually if you think about it, you're right. You have assements throughout the year for the role you're in. Why am I being interviewed to move to another role? Don't my assessments determine how I'm performing? Doesn't make sense. Re-interview someone who is already in the company and performing? Re-interviewing destroys culture and eliminates inclusion. Take the gates off. Empower employees directly with their own future and transform and motivate Verizon.

The culture is now based on a caste system. If you are not in the preferred caste, you don’t move ahead. In fact, you’ll be lucky not to be RIFd. And if you are a female engineer/stem worker, your assigned duties will consist of paperwork, reports and/or event planning.

Verizon interviewing process is such farce they play with applicants/ candidates. I could never understand when they ask all kinds of irrelevent question that has nothing to do with the job applied for. seems like this is a just a game they play when they already know who they are going hire (their cronies and friends) who may not even qualifiy for the position.
