Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Dell perception in the Job Market?

Expecting to be laid off. Lots of org changes in past eight months and my new boss is very distant past couple of months and my input is rarely sought on anything. My motivation is almost at 0. The silence is deafening.

For those laid off recently, how well is long tenure at Dell received in market? In my 25+ years as a tech professional, Dell accounts for almost 20 of them.

How long did it take those who were laid off to find another role at similar pay? Did you have to relocate?

Other storage companies like the EMC experience, especially if you worked in storage.

@7bqe+1ndewTgE because they are suporting someone who is worried they are about to be laid off, telling them it will be ok and they are valued.

@7ykl+1ndewTgE Why would a layoff page be positive?

This is probably one of the most positive threads on the board. No one piled in on the author and a lot of people supported everyone else. Good

The last comment is correct. Dell may be viewed poorly in some parts of the market, but so is every company. Tell me please about the great reputation Amazon has eh?

But the employees arent. They are well regarded for their knowledge, speed and customer engagement. Support and ability to thrive at a company that changes direction every few months.

Every company has it's public image. This isnt a bad one

Your own experience will get you there. You will be fine. Dell are viewed as a--holes on the market and a sh-t workplace. But that does not mean the people unlucky to work there are the same.

Can anyone comment on if there is anything in the severance agreement insisting on the withdrawal of Data Subject Access requests in the UK?

You wasted away at dell for x decades.
Stop trying to rationalize your way out.
What you think you had at Dell could have been achieved elsewhere by magnitudes.

I guess someone needs to be with the fat girl. But let's not pretend she's not a fattie.

Yup. 20 years is nothing to feel bad about. Dont feel down because you have a boss that is probably also a bit down.

You joined at the right time and were part of a company that went from a PC vendor to a global "everything". Dell is in every company in the world, your kids know who you work for, you get ahead in every resume list and the knowledge you have is off the scale.

You got nothing to worry about.

@1fcr+1ndewTgE I disagree that 19 years at Dell is nothing to brag about.

19 years at Dell has provided several million dollars in salary, stability for my family and life. I have met and worked with hundreds of incredibly talented people, many of whom are lifelong friends and colleagues. Some are not here, some arent, but it is a phone call away and we can do something good together.

I have learned skills most would never dream about and certainly I would not have imagined doing before being here, rolled out programs of work at a scale that simply would not happen elsewhere, been directly involved in projects that educate, save, support and even bring profits to many corporate and government agencies.

Ive also had a lot of fun doing it. You work hard, you play hard. Maybe not as much now but thats also fine.

So yeah I think I have a bit to brag about. I have a house, food on the table and know things. If I was not here, I would be employed tomorrow because of that great reputation Dell enabled.

Or. I could just sit here and wallow in how bad things are.

The author of this post originally should be proud of themselves. They have been through all the last 15 years and punched it. They know things many would never dream of. Have a coffee, get a smile on your face and keep moving forward :)

Having Dell on your CV/Resume is not a negative. Its a major hardware vendor.

I would say it depends on where you are applying and what role...
If you are a hardware specialist and applying for an advert that's all cloud. Its not going to do any favours. If applying for a hybrid or on-premise role, it may help especially if the use the product.

If its sales, be sure to highlight the soft skills and its not all tin

@OP+1ndewTgE everything you are reading here is cr-p, after 20 years at Dell you dont even realise how much you know, how valuable that knowledge is and who wants it.

People forget . . every single company has Dell and a lot of it, every vendor, partner, small business to large. You literally are what you make of it and if you hold a positive attitude, remember your work and skills, people will want your knowledge.

Im 19 years at Dell and would do another 19 here or somewhere else and it's all about how you look at it and the reputation you bring. Go forth and rock this.

After being laid off recently... I found that I'm underpaid by ~45k USD. I was at Dell for almost 6 years, so happy I kept my skills up to date! I would read, study during bullshit meetings and during customer btch sessions. I'm in a much better place today, making much more $$$ and stock options... something Dell didn't offer.

I worked at Dell, left, did some stints for a few years elsewhere and ended up at a company that was then acquired by EMC and then Dell.

20y at dell??? sorry. who does that at one company?
it's kind of a you shot yourself in the foot thing and now how do you recover?

if you kept on top of your skillset and market you will land on your feet
if not it will be a long hard road ahead

Dell does not have a great brand in the labor market. Perception that best and brightest have left and those who haven’t are either not very good or political and toxic. If you were part of any Dell acquisition break that time our separately. It’ll make a big difference.

Agree.I think career change may be the way forward.
Unless you conform you wont do well in Dell.
No individuals just droids.
